Quality Affordable Picture Framing in Brisbane?

Hey,

Does anyone know of an affordable place in Brisbane that does good quality picture framing?

I really just want something basic (nice black frame), but I hear some places ask for really unreasonable amounts. This is the first picture I've ever gotten framed (oh god.. I'm getting old) so I really have no idea what a good price range is. The dimensions of the picture are 760 x 570mm if it helps.

Thanks!

Check out op shops for second hand frames.

    • This is actually genius. I've seen so many cheap-as-chips paintings in decent frames that I could reuse. I know what I'm doing this weekend

      • Yeah, years ago moving from Albury to bris I broke the glass on a 1.4m x 90cm picture. Glass shops and frame shops were charging min $80 for replacement sheet. Went to a large op shop in nudgee and bought a crap framed print for $12 but the glass was the exact same. Score.

Also look on eBay. Because they are bulky then people won't post so it will be local pickup which minimises the target customer range.

I saw some frames in the Reject Shop. Main issue is the mount and if it's a good bit of art, it has to not be against the glass.

    • Yeah, it's a really nice original I was given as a gift and it will need some spacing. I might check it out anyway. Cheers!

  • I'd expect that would be around $200 for a decent frame.

If it's an original work on paper, please don't just dump it into a crappy frame. If it has a fibreboard backing, it'll turn the work yellow as it ages. If you attach the artwork using anything but framers tape you'll damage the work over time, or possibly rip the work if you drop it. And crappy frames tend to break much more easily.

So get a decent frame, it'll last you for years (probably decades) and protect the work.

Sorry, don't know of anyone in Brisbane. Only Sydney : )
