International Transaction Fee for Audible.com.au

Hi all. Long time lurker, first time poster.
I've a subscription with Audible.com.au, I'm an Australian, I pay with AUD via CBA amex credit card and according to the people at audible the payments are processed in Australia but as of September I've had to pay an international transaction fee of 45 cents per transaction or 3%. Still trying wrap my head around it. Sure audible is an overseas enitity but so is paypal and i don't pay a international transaction. What are other people experiences? Is this double dipping?

  • Hi,

I used to get this with a NAB Amex for spotify, NAB said even though it was AUD the processing was done off shore so they charge the fee. Changing the subscription to an Amex direct issued card (non bank) got rid of the extra fee.

    Cheers

  • That is interesting … I have a few subscriptions on my CBA low-fee Mastercard. No international transaction fees at all. Maybe tell the bank to either cut the fee or cut the card. See what they say.

  • Same thing here but with Adobe subscriptions. Since September I've noticed an international transaction fee (also paid with CBA Amex).

  • This is very frustrating as there is no easy way to tell if you are going to be charged this insidious fee. Just on the audible topic though, I listen to audiobooks as well. Did you know you can borrow from your "local" library for free? I drove around to all the libraries near me and got a card for each. you then go to this website and search which libraries carry the book you want: https://www.overdrive.com/.
However, if the book you want is not at your library, you can often request that they buy it by doing a search on their website and then choosing recommend title. Don't know where you are but Eastern Regional in Melbourne is a really great one: http://erl.lib.overdrive.com/

    • Overdrive is great and I also belong to the eastern region library however I use audible for the books that aren't available

  • They probably switch their local AUD merchant processor off and moved all payments to their US merchant which charges in AUD but is located offshore. Thus the currency fee. You can avoid the INT FOREIGN FEE completely for those who hold a 28 degrees CC# or bankwest platinium CC#.
