I've spent the last 2 days researching these action cameras and this is an extremely good price at $106.95. It's competitors that I was considering were the SJ5000x, iSaw Edge and the GitUp Git2. From what I've found, the firefly 7s is the same dimensions as a GoPro and therefore will fit all of it's accessories.

The SJ5000x and the firefly 7s have Sony's 12MPX sensor while the iSaw Edge and GitUp Git2 have Sony's 16MPX sensor. I can't comment on the quality of these sensors and while megapixels don't define quality, the 16MPX sensor is newer.

As for prices, I found the following:
SJ5000x $156 @eBay
iSaw Edge $202 @eBay (note that the iSaw comes with the most accessories)
GitUp Git2 $173 ($138 after discount) @BangGood (I think they have 20% off using code: b0b98d but I have not checked this)

  • Is this a GoPro alternative?

    • Yeah, GoPro alternative

Is this a Black Widow alternative?

Burst out laughing when I saw it has a 640x480 high definition screen. Anyways dig aside would be interesting to know if these hold up quite well.

Screen is 400ppi. That puts it on the same level of detail as the iphone 6+

      • I stand erected. No image stabilisation otherwise would be a dead set purchase.

stand how you like adrian … but the camera's still good value

        • +1

          They have gyro image stabilization

        • @sssboi: saw that but i mean proper OIS or some other stabilisation - have seen sample videos, not quite for me. but i can see the value proposition though.

I got the $50 4k cam a while back, the image quality was actually quite impressive!! EASILY worth the money. The lack of ois does let them done, can get quite jittery!

  • do these shoot in 4K or just shoot in 1080p/2.7k and blow it up digitally?

    • Not sure, but the 4k is more of a gimmick to put on the box. Realistically 1080p is where most of us would be using it.

  • The Git2 is reasonable at that price too

Have been looking at getting an action cam but didn't want to buy a Gopro and have it turn out that I don't like it/use it. Can live with $106 as opposed to a few hundred $$

    • Accessories through gearbest are pretty reasonable and they have a good range from what I saw

      • +1

Yeah I ordered one of those universal action cam mount kits to go with it for $25 which is reasonable.

  • One of these or one of these……http://www.banggood.com/SJcam-M10-WIFI-Cube-Car-Mini-Full-HD-Waterproof-Action-Sport-Camera-p-954162.html

Depends on your application I suppose. The 7s shoots 1080p at 60fps. The SJCam you linked only does 1080p at 30fps. But again depends on your application as that doesn't have to be a deal breaker.

Got mine a few days back. It seems pretty good for the money, but I have zero experience with any other action cam which is both good and bad; bad because I don't know if it's any good, but also good because to me, it's the best one I've ever used ;)

    • Still waiting on mine, ordered on the 16th of Oct using Australia Express as the postal method….not very express
