Why So Many people already selling their newly purchased iPhone 7 in Australia?

Hi All, i am noticing a lot of people are selling iphone 7 already on BSS sites and gumtree. Just wondering if anyone know why is that considering it's brand new model and people still wanting to buy. I know some of sellers are trying to sell for higher price, but many are selling less than market price and potentially some scammers.

  • I'm wondering this too.

Apparently a small percentage of people who originally Pre-ordered the iPhone 7, are still waiting for stock - Maybe why?

One of my family members are still waiting for theirs, due to high demand.

    Insurance scam.
    Stolen.
No 3.5 mm audio jack after drill housing as per instruction video.

    Com to mind.

      No. lol

These seem legit and they supposedly come with a receipt. Many are from the Apple store.

Go on contract. Insure phone. Sell said phone and claim insurance. Buyer gets screwed when telco disables imei.

i know some of them are from signing a new phone plan, but dont need a new phone. So they just cash out on the phone when it's still in high demand, considering the waiting time for a new unit.

    • Why would anyone sign on for a new phone plan if they do not need a new phone?

On a BYO plan they would get more download lower price….. This makes no sense

The women in my family returned their iphone 7, because they weren't impressed with the minor changes. It's too similar to the 6S. Sure, the A10 fusion chip is fast but hardly anyone uses their phone at load, so the benchmarks are pointless.
Some kept their iphone 6s and I bought an S7 edge for the others for about $800.

    • Interestingly iphone 7 has hit old models hard, the prices are trashed. Now people expect iphone 6 around $400 mark.

That is interesting. Put price aside,
what has really changed since the 6s for your everyday usage? Camera quality is already pretty good and still no OLED panel. Apple needs to get their act together. I suspect they'll have OLED panels in the new iphone.

I'm trying to get people in my family to use their phones for more than 1 year.

        • Ya i am on same page. I got brand new condition 6s under warranty in decent price. Will keep using that and wait for next version.

The only tempting thing in new model is Jet black color. I cannot find that color case for 6s.

Iphone 6 and 6s case does not fit to Iphone 7, however Iphone 7 case fits being same measurement but exposes a bit of camera space around it. Image

@b4rgainhunter: just wait for few weeks later ebay will full of jet black cases from china

      • Best sale i did was a 16gb iphone 3g for 300 bucks when the 4s was just released.

Cant believe i managed to sell for that much.

Did no one do any research before buying? Sounds like it.

      • I know. Clearly weren't ozbargainers if they buy several $800+ phones just to decide they aren't much different to what they already have, then sell them off for a loss….

Great to see a thread about apple phones. So rare these days.

they'd rather have a samsung galaxy note 7 - which is so hot right now

      • -1

Go search "note 7 battery fire"

        • @niner: samsung galaxy note 7 - which is so hot right now

          Fires are hot.

          That was the joke.

        • -5

          @fruit:

No, the joke was "they'd rather have a samsung galaxy note 7".

You can't buy the Note 7, so why would they rather one?

        • @niner:

          No, the joke was:

which is so hot right now

          because:

          Fires are hot.

        • -1

          @Domingo:

They can't get the note 7 regardless of how hot it is.

        • +4

          @niner: No, dig up.

        • @Pharos5:

          No, can't get it.

    Courage

These are the same yuppies who bought an iphone 7 after hearing Apple's courageous endeavour.

I guess if a person purchased a new iPhone 7 and did not like it, he can return it to the Apple Store (within 14 days) instead of dealing with Gumtree/eBay.

    • +1

yeah so it is a bit sus actually (why they offloads at GT/EB instead). even after you open the box you still can return to apple no question asked

  • +1

Selling for more than "RRP": trying to profit
Selling for less than "RRP": potential scam seeing as they can just return it to the Apple store, or perhaps it's an unwanted gift.

    • Has it only been 14 days?

Remember the good old days when everyone thought Nokia was the King of Mobiles? nobody knew what the exact specs of each model was and it was just a matter of whichever phone could make a call! one of my first phones was this really ancient LG model - it was ok then I had the Samsung flip phone then one day the charger stopped charging it. battery probably died after too much listening to music on it LOL

    • Propably why nokia is dead today, the market left them behind.

  • It definitely depends on the ad as it could be for several different reasons.

As mentioned, I think selling a contract phone is the most common.
