Looking for card advice - UK/Euro travel

Hi all.
Heading back to the mother land for a month later this year. Will also be heading over for a couple of Euro trips whilst there (Probably France/Germany/Spain).

I'm looking for suggestions for a card/cards to take and use whilst away.
I currently have the ANZ black (Qantas FF) which is used for everything daily (then paid off fortnightly). This card will get binned as soon as the annual fee is due (unless I manage to get it waived). I only really got it for the bonus 60k QFF points offer.
I bank with P&N bank and just have a normal debit card with them.

I have made international transactions on the ANZ card and just put up with the assoc fee….but I want to avoid that (and potentially avoid the crappy exchange rates).

So im looking for something to use to make the vast majority of purchases, and something for ATM cash withdrawals.
I was going to go 28 degrees but there seems to be a lot of negativity about it on here at the moment.
If I can also link it to my QFF account, that would be another bonus (but not a deal breaker).

Any suggestions on my best way forward?

thanks

28 degrees or Citibank are perhaps your best options, never had a problem with my 28 Degrees card when went there

    • 28 degrees has lost some of its benefits - e.g. fee free ATM withdrawals. still good for OS purchases

Citibank definitely. Never had any issues with it in Europe at all including ATMs (in USA you can sometimes get charged). I'm not too sure if it is with all Aussie cards but it worked seamlessly with the Oyster system on the London tube.

I have never used 28 degrees so I can't help you there.

I would also always have another back up card on me and also in my luggage (that I don't take out with me).

I would not want to use any card with international transaction fees. If you can get the annual fee waived, I would bring the ANZ Black for the concierge option (or any other premium CC). I think it is very underutilised. When I'm overseas (or even before I leave), I call them up and use them for ideas or specific things.
As an example, I have used them to:
      - book a booked-out Michelin star restaurant in San Sebastian for the very next night
      - book a private yacht in Thailand for 3 nights
      - tell me where to buy flowers and champagne late on a Sunday night in Amsterdam

  • Bankwest Zero Platinum for purchases, Citibank Visa Debit for ATM withdrawals.

  • Citibank

  • thanks for all the info/help. applied for (and approved for) 28degrees - I have a bit of an issue with Bankwest and they would really be a last resort for me.
I was a bit suprised at the poor limit on the 28degrees…$7k….is that normal-ish?
