Info for eBay Sellers - How to Activate Click & Collect on Your Listings

The current Ebay Click-and-Collect promotion made me wonder how to add the C&C option to my Ebay store listings. (I mean the C&C at Woolies option, not C&C at Myers or elsewhere.)

Here's what I've figured out so far. Maybe it will help OzBargainers who are also Ebay sellers (as the Ebay FAQ info is incomplete).

  • Ebay says you need to offer "Fast handling time – 3 days or less" (i.e. the time it takes you to pack the order, not the time it takes for the parcel to arrive).

  • Check that your items are within the elegible categories for C&C. I couldn't find a list in the Ebay FAQs but found a good one on neto.com.au at https://www.neto.com.au/ebay-click-and-collect-overview-and-…

  • Make sure your items are within maximum parcel weight and dimensions. Ebay says "The maximum parcel weight is 16kg and the maximum parcel dimensions are 41.2cm x 50cm x 36cm, including packaging".

  • Ebay says go to My Ebay > Site Preferences to turn C&C on but here's what you actually have to do: Go to My Ebay > Account tab > Site Preferences > Postage Preferences > Show > Offer Click and Collect > Edit.
(Offer C&C only showed up here for one of my Ebay stores and not the other. I don't know why.)

  • YOU ALSO HAVE TO DO THIS: Go to My Ebay > Account tab > Business Policies > then you have to go into EACH AND EVERY one of your postage policies and tick the Collection in Person box. (Business Policies showed up here for one of my Ebay Stores and not the other. Weird.) Note that it took about 30 minutes for my updates to be processed by Ebay and for the C&C option to appear in my listings.

Ebay says: " You can purchase your postage as usual through your carrier. Just remember to use the address we provide (i.e. for the woolies store) including the buyer's name and the unique code."

Ebay says: "What is an eCP code and why is it needed?
A unique eCP code is generated for every Click & Collect order to allow for accurate parcel identification – ensuring buyers get the correct item. We'll automatically include it with the store address for all Click & Collect orders you receive. To avoid any delays, make sure the code is clearly visible on the postage label."

I hope this applies not just to parcels but to letter-sized boxes as well. I will let you know my experiences in the comments below once I send out some C&C orders.

Interesting. I don't bother with C&C seems like more hoops to jump through to me

you should seriously rethink this. c&c isn't meant for casual sellers.

    • Interesting comment. Why do you say that?

Most of the products I make/sell are small enough to fit in a $2 letter-rate box. Sometimes I hide that in the price of the item and offer "free postage", sometimes I don't. Either way, I don't think that $2 postage would discourage buyers from using their home address. So I really can't imagine buyers using the C&C option in my store.

However … I wanted to see if I could turn C&C on so that my ads would be appear to buyers shopping on Ebay because of the current C&C promotion (and who may be using the C&C filter). Happy to hear your comments.

  • I agree it's a big hassle from a buyer's point of view. I'll let you know how it goes from a seller's point of view. Hopefully it just means posting the order to a different address (and remembering to include the code).

  • C&C is a pain (from a sellers point of view).

It can also be a pain from buyers point of view as well.

Last year, it took BigW a week to pick up packages from the post office (I ordered as C&C) then another 3 days to advise me ready to pick up.
BTW, the post office is less than 5 minutes walk from BigW.

It was a joke between myself and post office guy, as I go in there a few times a week and he kept telling me they hadn't picked up - but he couldn't hand over to me as it had to go through BigW first.

Interesting. Thanks for the info. I'll guess I'll learn from (painful?) experience.

      • You can only try. It may work for you.

One thing that buyers do think is that items are actually stocked at the C&C locations. ebay does not teach people well, nor do they communicate effectively these days.

I do know quite a few sellers and some have kept C&C in their listings, some refuse to have it because of the problems they've been told about in forums and some have removed it from their listings after trying it out.

  • Does click and collect work for letters, or just parcels?

    • It works with large letters but there is a chance of the C&C location actually losing them.

  • As a buyer, most of my C&C usage was fine.. when things go well. I had one instance where woolies just didn't send me a collect message after a week and a half. No way to track. Seller refunded me - I'm guessing he/she couldn't track either?

I got a notification from woolies much later. I can't do a refund of the refund via ebay - had to do it outside as a separate txn in paypal.

At least with auspost if tracking is provided I can see where it is at. C&C is a gimmick if you're already used to having stuff posted to you.

  • As a seller we avoid C&C where possible.

We used to have it, and had too many buyers who didn't 'get' it. Even had someone leave negative feedback after they didn't get a call from the Big W it went to, and then they couldn't find the parcel. Somehow, this was our fault even though the customer had not even contacted us once about their parcel.

Many customers complaining that they went to the stores and they didn't know what they were talking about.

https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Wireless-Magnetic-Bluetooth-Earp… Heres one, If you type in Bluetooth earphone in Australia it comes up with this for $2.99 but its $2.99 for some sponge earbuds. At-least these items are related. I will try and find one. It happens with flashlights in particular, one commonly searched flashlight brand, and the seller adds a cheap $1 flashlight to the listing for or a battery case for battery related items!
