Fortin Rum

This rum is 100% sugarcane honey and after fermentation is distilled in column stills and then aged in bourbon casks for 8 years.

Nose: slightly marked, elegant with vanilla and butterscotch.
Palate: sweet and rich, then it grows on the palate with more spice. On a creamy body, almost fat, there is the dominant caramel vanilla nose.
Final: then goes to a great extent on the finish, with raisins, toffee, but also a plant peppermint tip that gives originality. Suave and elegant rum.

  • That's a bit much for a bottle of rum, isn't it?

    • You'd be surprised at how much quality rums can go for and the amount of import duty our country has!

  • How would it rate alongside say a diplomatico?

    • I would rate the Diplomatico far above personally - taste buds tend to be a personal preference however (we have someone at the office who swears by Fortin, I think he's a loony). I personally like sweet and Diplomatico has a lot of sweetness on the tongue. Fortin has a very unique character though, the production technique is unusual (a metal evaporator is used to heat the cane sugar).

Something more comparable to the Diplomatico would be our HSE Rum Agricole 2005 Vintage 'Vieux' Islay Malt Finish which is my favorite. Literally anything from HSE is quite great.

The French are very good at making quality spirits that stands out.

  • cheers .. maybe i should visit me olde ma who lives in france more often ..

    • +1
