Where Can I Get a Pre-Bought Present Gift Wrapped?

Hi guys,

My mum turns 50 in November and I all I could squeeze out of her is that she wants a current Adelaide/SA street directory. I didn't want to get her one but she's a stern woman who is very hard to buy for so I thought "pffft, give the woman what she wants".

Now, seeing as I'm giving her this totally boring gift, I wanted to get it EXTRAVAGANTLY gift wrapped to make up for just how underwhelming the gift itself is.

That being said, I can't seem to find a standalone gift wrapping company? Lots of places offer gift wrapping for items bought in their store but I can't imagine RAA offering this service.

I'm from Adelaide, South Australia so local stores would be ideal but I'm honestly willing to send it via post interstate if need be.

P.S. Please don't suggest I wrap it myself. It should've given it away that I'm rubbish at wrapping hence me willing to fork out the dough on wrapping paper and bows.

Thanks in advance!

  • David jones will gift wrap your purchase for you._ Just buy a random book or book-shaped object, take it to the counter and ask them to gift wrap your street directory instead of the item you just bought.

    • We actually still sell street directories! (Who buys them from us I have no idea)

Plus it's $9.95 to gift wrap it unless you pay with a David Jones card.

People with boring mums I can only assume.

      • (Who buys them from us I have no idea)

People who understand phones don't work all the time.

          Mum, is that you?

          @bargainbeseecher:

Your mum is surprisingly internet savvy. That might be why she doesn't want anything interesting for a present, since she already bought everything she needs via Ozb

      • A street directory kept in the boot of your car will still provide you with maps even if your phone has no coverage or has run out of battery.

It’s available in all our department stores and is complimentary when you make your purchase with your David Jones American Express Card or David Jones Storecard.

Assuming OP already has a DJ CC or storecard. Plus, I doubt DJ will do any EXTRAVAGANT gift wrapping.

      • Nope. Just plain paper and DJs ribbon. Some can do multiple bows though (I can't)

    • Embarrassing but might just work!

You could try something like Airtasker, get someone to wrap it for you. I like wrapping stuff and I often make mine misleading, I could do it since Im in SA too, but has to be worth my time.

    • Sorry, don't have a first born to offer up as of yet.

Your value your first born <$20?

  • Perhaps if you ask the bookshop nicely (especially since it's gift giving season coming up), they can wrap it up for you, perhaps for a donation to a charity they support. Kinokuniya in Sydney is one such bookshop

I'll have to them my charming yet still thoroughly boring story and plead my case. Thanks for suggestion!

Go to florist and offer to buy a ridiculously large bunch of flowers on the condition the wrap the directory and incorporate it in to a bouquet

Put your request up on Airtasker?

    • I've never heard of Airtasker. This is an incredible use of the internet tbh.

Try a high end stationery store, like where they sell wedding invitation paper (not officeworks!).
My sister used to work in one and became an expert gift wrapper (and not too bad with the sick rhymes).
Expect to pay $20 for fancy paper, ribbons etc, but likely you will get the actual wrapping done free.
To give you an idea, she uses double sided tape so none is visible on the outside, lines up the paper pattern so seams aren't readily visible, and often uses layers of ribbon so you get a tasteful wide ribbon, with a narrower ribbon overlaid.
Her wrapping skills always get oohs and aahs when she hands over a gift.

    • Ooooh, interesting. By high end are we talking Kikki K or higher?

  • Gift packs at Lush are already pre-wrapped! Forget the street directory. Bath bombs galore!

    • Stern women like her aren't a fan of baths, Cupcake.

      • She doesn't have to take a bath. She could soak her feet in it - and have nice smelling feet.
