Giving your details when entering Comps

Hi all fellow Bargainers, just quick question about giving your personal detail such as DOB AND address when you entering comps. Sometimes I feel uneasy about this, because once its out there, its out there, might've fall into wrong hand, who knows. How do you Bargainers feel about this?

Say you moved / mistyped dob?

        • Mistyped DOB is a Brilliant IDEA!!!

@Deink: Except when they don't believe you, you can't provide I.D. to claim your prize, don't get the prize, and entering or giving any details was a waste of time. However I have done this anyway, just slightly different to my real DOB

Cmon with same name address and phone number, they shouldve, imo

A DOB is all you need to verify an ASIC account in Australia.

I'm definitely apprehensive, especially with smaller companies I've never heard of that pop up on OzBargain.

    • I think we can all getaway with 'accidental mistyped' DOB…

    • Do you mean that you can actually log in an Asic account with only the accouunt's holder name and dob?

      • One example of what you might get away with is linking an existing business name to an ASIC account you just created (http://asic.gov.au/online-services/register-for-online-acces…) and use your new-found ownership to cancel or transfer ownership of the business (which may be tied to a *.com.au domain, for example). People who registered businesses indirectly using those pointless online services (e.g. https://businessname.com.au/) wouldn't have existing ASIC accounts.

Without getting into specifics, certain nefarious acts can be thought up by determined crooks.

On the flipside, every one of your close friends and family and one's Facebook associates could guess you DOB.

  • Auspost Parcel Lockers are great if you're going to know the tracking. I use one and have the parcels reassigned to another address during transit.

Don't care, give them all my proper details. But I'm careful on the source of the comp

Don't mind giving them my name or date of birth but what really turns me away from entering competitions is giving them my mobile number. They always seem to give it out to third party companies and what not (to be fair, it's probably all there in the T&Cs but I never read them so I should probably just accept my telecommunicative harassment).
