Redeeming 2000 Flybuys Points into $10 at Checkout While Qualifying for Minimum Spend

Hi fellow OzBargainers, I have been offered one of those "spend $x over each of next 3 weeks" type of Flybuys promo and also have stack of Flybuys points to be used.

If the qualifying spend is $50, my shopping comes to $51 and I redeem 2000 points for $10 taken off the total, will I still qualify for that week's promo with my final bill comes to just $41?

I read the t&c's which say excluding discounts but flybuys dollars redemption to me technically isn't a discount, just a method of payment.

Would love to hear your opinions or anyone sharing their experience. Thanks guys!

I'd say you're right in that flybuys dollars is just another method of payment. Not 100% confident but yeah.

    yes you will still qualify.

Used Woolworths reward dollars and still qualified, so assume flybuy dollars would be the same.

flybuys dollars redeemed ahead of time and loaded to your card is a payment method. You will need to remember what PIN you have chosen in order to use the funds on the eftpos machine. This won't affect the target you have to reach for the qualifying transaction.

If you have the Mastercard which gives you $10 off when you reach 2000 points or a special offer that lets you redeem points at the checkout, this is a discount and might lower your final total below the qualifying target for your offer.

I hope this clears things up.

    • I didn't preload my Flybuys points redemption as I have never redeemed that way which requires the use of PIN. With my 'experiment' today' which turned out good …thank goodness :), I didn't use my Coles MasterCard for this transaction. The screen with an option to redeem 2000 points for $10 came up after I scanned my Flybuys card and proceeded to pay with my Amex. So in my case, choosing the on-screen redemption did not register it as a discount.

If you do decide to use some points then make sure you check the bottom of the receipt afterwards. It will say 'congratulations, you've qualified' or something similar if you've spent the required amount.

Thanks everyone who have offered their thoughts and suggestions. Your comments have given me confidence to try this out at Coles this evening. So here I am sharing my results for the benefit of all who has had doubts like I did.

The outcome was this: My 2000 points for $10 redemption DOES NOT reduce my qualifying spend (my total shopping was $50.45) and I got my "Congratulations" note at the bottom of my receipt. Thanks for the reminder! @flipsahoy :)

So, the redemption seems like a payment method used as it appears as "Coles FinSvc $10 off" below the Total line which says $50.45, and above the line for EFT (my other method of payment for the balance of the Bill).

I was also lucky enough to have stacked it with a docket bonus 1,000 points and my weekly Coupon 500 points offer - both required $50 spend. So this shop has bagged me 2,500 points or equiv to 25% off my shop today :))
