Brand New or Second Hand Fridge

Hi guys and girls
I'm moving to my first ever own home soon, and I need a fridge. The question is, should I buy one 2nd hand off gumtree or double my money and buy a brand new one?

Many thanks in advance!

Save money and get one second hand. People might sell their old fridges on gumtree because they have bought a new house and their current fridge doesn't fit or they are upgrading. Nothing wrong with going second hand!

  • Get something efficient as it will pay for itself in electricity savings alone.

As long as the fridge is less than 8 years old, the savings will be negligible.

  • If your short of cash, buy second hand. If you live near a big city often people immigrate and set up a house buying all nice appliances then have a change of heart and move back. You can often pick up two year old appliances for cheap as they are moving back home next week etc

  • If this is your first fridge, buy second hand. Just make sure it's very cheap and you have means to transport.
Reason is there are too many choices nowadays and chances are, after spending big money on a new one, you might change your mind.

  • Buy second hand, you can get what was $1200 new for $200.

Also consider if you need more fridge or freezer, I currently have a half empty fridge but super full freezer (decided microwave meals are easier than cooking at 9-10pm at night.)

On a side note had the weight watchers bol last night on special at woolies till tomorow for 1.89, not bad at all, cooked chips Nd some steggles chicken tenders there was dinner rofl.

Edit: also factor some extra to get new seals, not enough people reseal the second hand fridge they buy. Keeps air in so less electricity used. (obviously use your head, if seals are fine dont waste cash)

  • Second hand. My first fridge was a $50 second hand one that lasted 3 years whilst at uni.
