I Think The Xbox One Elite Controller Kinda Sucks As Far As Throttle Triggers Goes.

Been using Xbox One Elite controller for a while now, only on Dirt Rally and GTA IV and V.

For me the triggers suck to use as accelerator or brake because they have very little resistance. I find it difficult to accurately gauge how much pressure I'm applying. Sometimes I even manage to move the controller without meaning to when my finger rests on the controller leading to me wondering why is the car accelerating for a few seconds.

I didn't realise quite how bad this was for my game play until I plugged in an Nvidia Shield Controller and played Dirt Rally. The Nvidia Shield Controller is a well designed and made but it's clearly way lower quality than the Xbox One Elite Controller. Nonetheless the Shield controllers triggers need a much heavier pressure to move them and suddenly I started winning rallies in Dirt Rally :p

So if you're thinking about using an Xbox One Elite controller on PC for car games, you might want to investigate.

Anyone else think the same thing? Maybe I'm the only one.

  • The controller was made for shooters in mind. That's why the triggers have little 'throw' (dunno if this is right terminology) and it's meant to mimic the trigger of a gun.

The same goes for the Steam Controller — it has two stage triggers… nice feature, but I never use it.

I feel the triggers are either 0 or 100, never in between. It's not great for playing flightsims or Rocket Leage, that's for sure.

Gyro is cool though and you can steer just by turning the controller, like you do a real steering wheel.

For racing games, I would recommend getting the original Xbox 360 wired controllers, $30 a pop.

  • +1

Make sure you don't have trigger locks on. I had mine on and was only getting about 60-70% throttle and braking on Forza. Locks off and no problems.

    • Haha.

  • The normal Xbox One controller triggers isnt much different to the 360. Works fine in Forza and they dont need hugely precise acceleration/braking.
