Poor iPhone 6 Repair. Screen Lifting off

I recently dropped my phone on the concrete, cracking the screen, I took it to the local phone shop to repair. $200 later phone was fixed. The very next day I tried to talk to someone on speakerphone and they couldn't hear me. Siri would not work either. I took a back to the shop and they opened it up again and said that whoever repaired it the first time at their shop had left a sticker over the microphone. They removed it put my phone back together and it was all working well. Two days later I noticed some black spots on the screen behind the actual LCD. I took the phone back to the shop and they looked at it and said that they could not fix it as the screen was lifting up on the top corner. They accused me of dropping my phone or miss handling it and said that they would not fix it, I left the store pretty pissed off and called the shops head office, at first they were pretty sympathetic and said that they would fix it, after head office calling the store that repaired the phone they said they would not. If I had actually dropped the phone again I would just cop it and except it is my own fault. I have not mishandled it in any way and I believe that taking the phone apart again the second time has compromised the glue on the screen and now it won't stick. all this is happened within seven days of the actual screen repair and I still say they won't do anything about it. So what are my options now?

You should have got apple to repair it

Apple charges $208 for a screen replacement and you would have still had your warranty too.

    name and shame

  • Name the store, once social media takes a told it usually reigns down the attitude and gets results

It was a little shop called Phone Collection at Knox shopping Centre, I would've gone to apple but need to make appt, also nearest Apple Store is chadstone.

  • Can I still go to Apple Store now?

      No, i don't think so

No chance. Apple won't touch it now.

    • Ring them up and ask them, they probably will unless you can show the part damaged the phone.

  • Buy a used iPhone 6 off eBay for $400 ish

  • So what can I do about the store, I can't let them just get away with this. Is small claims court a waste of time, or would a bit of street justice my best option?

  • Charge back on your credit card

  • I paid on a ANZ visa business debit card, can I charge it back? How do I do that, what do I say to the bank?

    • You want a chargeback

a lifting touch screen is a sign of an inferior replacement.

if you've got some time to kill then stand outside their store with a sign telling people to avoid the store.

print out a run down of what happened with dates, etc and hand it out to people who look at you.

    • fully sick idea. +1

    • Or get good at SEO

  • It's a good idea but I don't have the time, the person from the store called me on their personal mobile so I know who they are now thanks to facebook.

Seriously? Apple charges $168 or something. You got completely f***ed over. Why did you go to a local place??.

You can try going to Apple now… They'll probably say too bad so sad and won't do anything. You won't even be able to do a warranty swap out.

The only other thing you could try is send a letter of demand to the store asking them to fix it. Threaten action through the ACCC.

Honestly though I'd wipe it, put it on eBay for $150 for parts and move on.

Stand in front of the store and warn other customers about what happened until they fix it for you.

  • A year or so ago I had an iphone 4s which I inherited for my Dad (I assumed it was second-hand and already a few years old because he just handed it to me, not in a box or anything). I dropped it after having it for a year and took it to get a cheap screen replacement at one of those kiosk places. 6 months later it's going very slow and having serious battery issues (because it's an iphone 4s and not made to handle the current ios. Dad was like "Take it into Apple, Its only 1.5 years old and still in warranty!". So I took it into Apple and they did some diagnostics and found that the battery was indeed faulty and they were going to replace it free of charge. They took in into the back, then came out 10 mins later and asked if I'd ever replaced the screen. I'd forgotten about it until they mentioned it, and even though I made up some lame thing about thinking the kiosk was authorised, they just handed me back my shitty phone and said they weren't going to touch it :( I replaced the battery at a kiosk and it made like zero difference anyway.

So lesson learnt I guess. Always try to take it into Apple first. Most of the time they will even replace cracked screens free of charge if you are polite and friendly and it's only one or two cracks, not a totally smashed screen (but still always worth asking!). This also ensures your phone is still under warranty for other things. Also don't forget lots of credit cards come with smart phone screen insurance. I know it won't help you now but maybe in the future it could be good to know :)
