Opinions on Dell XPS 13?

Hi all, does anyone own the dell xps by any chance? I recently went in store to look at it and its drop dead gorgeous. The webcam placement kills me and the unused space on the 15' is heartbreaking. However it is still beautiful work of art. I've read that there have been wifi card issues, issues with the Ac adapter not registering, and battery gets drained by some insane amount within the first 6 months which is super worrisome.

I was tossing between this and the razer blade stealth. But i can't deal with those bezels after seeing the xps. The Asus zenbook has an intel m processor which isn't very powerful. Ideally I'd like an i7 processor,no touch, no 4k display (waste of money at this point and adds unwanted weight) I did look at the hp spectre that thing is way too flimsy for my liking. If you have any other suggestions let me know. Thanks guys!

  • Have you looked into the Lenovo X1 Carbon?

    • I haven't seen the actual laptop yet, went into HN and JB today with no luck. They don't stock it?

      • As it's not a consumer-grade laptop, it's only available online.

        • Ah, thanks for clarifying. I really need to see the actual device though.

Has anyone got one is able to comment on how it is?

        • @pyro love bird:

You'll be able to find plenty of reviews and comparisons via Google.

        • @tranqme:okie dokie, thanks :)

  • I have the latest xps 13 with the i7 and 3,200 x 1,800 touch screen. Whilst it is a beautiful machine it certainly does have two things that I wish would change.

    1. The 13 inch does not officially support the addition of extarnal GPU enclosures via usb-c slot - I could rid myself of my desktop if not for this.
    2. Because of the resolution of the screen there are a large number of programs where the UI shows buttons and toolbar microscopically small. There is a workaround to change ratio to 1200 x 900 I believe but if you have shelled out big $$$ for a nice screen you want to use all the pixels you can :).

I would go the stealth if you want more 'future proofing' GPU wise as you can change out external GPU as needed and get something that would rival a high end gaming desktop.

Just bring your wallet because both are big $$$ to buy.

Cant go wrong with either but depends which you like more and if you require the GPU support.

    • Yeah, that really sucks. Would love to have a graphics hooked up to this but it would still be using the processor of the laptop you know? Can't play overwatch on this! Have you had any issues with the fan being too loud, the battery draining too much or wifi issues?

Although it's a cosmetic thing, the stealth is only a 12.4' screen on a bigger footprint than the xps. I'd have to get the razer core if I wanted to game on the razer, and I have thought about it, it probably isn't worth even considering that for an ultrabook anymore. If I wanna game, I'll do it on a pc. Can I ask you where and how much you got yours for? are you happy with your purchase aside from those two things?

  • Since when do Asus Zenbooks uses atom processor? The majority of them are either i5, i7 or Core M. The latest Zenbook 3 uses either an i5 7200U or i7 7500U. My biggest issue with the XPS 13 is that the webcam is at the bottom of the screen. I mean the engineers at Dell are geniuses are creating beautiful tech but it is obvious they have no sense of photography. I dont want my company's senior management team to stare at my fat chin for every video conference.

    • sorry, they use an M processor, I apologise, I was probably thinking of something else. Yeah I have an issue with that too, however I barely use the webcam. Dell should have just omitted the webcam entirely and had an accessory that clipped onto the top of the screen as a webcam.

  • Hi.

I work for a company which offers Dell discounts for employees, but after going to the site https://www.staffpurchase.com.au/dell-xps-13/

It just has the FHD+Iris 540 spec old XPS for more than the Dell Outlet, so totally pointless.
Is there anyway to get the new Kaby Lakes discounted, and not just the usual Dell promotions open to everyone?

What about the coil wine people are bitching about?
