$10 Optus Prepaid Sim card can't activate

Guess a few of you OZB out there have purchase a few of these $10 optus prepaid sim card during the $2 at coles or $1 at 7-11 last month.

I am having a nightmare activate these sim cards at the moment. I got 10 of these sim and tried none of them able to activate.

'We are having trouble validating the SIM number, please try again or try using another SIM card. Reference: PPACT-SIMVAL-0008' Error message keep on poping up on every single one of them.

Called up optus and hardly helpful either.
1st called the operator keep on asking me the phone number attached to the sim card. There is no mobile number on the sim card but serial sim. She then asked me where I bought it so I mention 7-11 and coles. She then transfer me to Coles prepaid. 'What' I hanged up and try again

2nd called the operator asked me to get the serial sim then I told her about my experience of the error message. She then told me you are purchasing this coles prepaid sim card thats the reason you get the error message. I almost go WTF!!!! The card is Optus prepaid how they refer this to Coles prepaid. She then hang up the phone.

I did not make another call to optus as I believe it is the same outcome where talking to these helpless optus reps. I just dont get these Optus sims they refer to coles prepaid and Still I might have lost $20 in total with all these failed sims purchased. No receipt anymore as throw away.

I just want to get these optus sim activate. not even thinking about refund. Anyone have similar experience. What can I do next.

  • no idea but I see others have the same issue

  • Is there an optus store near you? Probably easier to walk in with the sim, say you bought this and want to activate it. They will visually see that its an Optus sim right in your hand.

  • Try online chat they are usually more helpful.

If they still won't activate go to Optus store and they will give you a new one.

  • An Optus store should help you but bring the receipt with you.

  • thanks ozb. attempt two optus store to sim activate.

visit optus rhode store after a long wait serve by a rep Rama just plain refusal to help. just tell me calling optus customer service is right thing to do. if they cannot help it is the same you visit optus store. you can refund the sims where you brought it from and then buy a new one in our store (price is then $10 of course). This Rama rep is just plain arrogant i guess help will be better served by different rep in same store

then visit optus top ryde got serve almost immediately explain my case again to a girl and then a rep Levi - aussie asked few general question like whether you have more than 5 number in optus and ask for id. He then patiently (which seriously long almost an hour) go through the faulty sims card then help me call up customer service explain the error messages he saw on the screen and then process a $10 credit on a new sim. Cannot compliment enough for the rep Levi effort for helping.

At the end, only decided to activate two sims as they only last 28days. but geez! cannot believe how long and frustration it takes for get this fix. as if these sim not faulty it only takes 5-10mins to activate

Coles and 7-11 really owned these faulty sims then put on sales that right now still lying around their store throughout australia

  • I have same issue for 3 activation, they just don't work, you have to go to optus get a new one.

    • Were they bought from Optus (store) ?

      • No, they were from cole, woolworth. They will bet locked permanently after activate.

  • dont border go to a optus store to get a new sim and $10 credit.

Update: my experience is great for the first time visit the top ryde optus store to fix this. however, the real issue never really fixed. they add me $10 credit then I checked the credit already expire after 3days! need to call the store again and do the same and then same result

since then the rep probably getting annoy ( so am I !) the process try rather wiggle out to further help and digging up my profile and stop helping as you have all optus prepaid profiles in the pass.

I suggest to refund these faculty sims back to coles or wool or 7-11. they lay around the supermarkets really plain useless and dont ever buy them. probably only 50% sims may work. these sims are just a scam

  • This just happened to me; I think I got it for like $2 a couple of months ago, its the second one to do it and I didn't even think of taking to the Optus store. The website for activating is also buggy. Just avoid completely.
