Decent Barber in Brisbane around $20

Hey Fellow OzBargainers,

Trying to find a decent barber around Fortitude Valley, Bowen Hills, Newstead area for around $20

Just moved here and every place i look at its $30-$35 which is crazy, just need a simple trim, they normally take 10 minutes. No shave or wet towel or fancy stuff…

Had a regular barber i used to go to in Melbourne they charged $15 for a good cut!

Went to the $10 haircut place where you put the money in the machine last time and they did a bad job so willing to pay a bit more.

Thanks

i used to go to this old greek guy in west end called Steve. corner of browning and boundary rd

    Steves Gents Hairdresser
3 Browning St, South Brisbane QLD 4101

    total old school.
me - "hey steve, can you give me a haircut?"
steve - "get in chair, sit"

    charges about $15.

    • Was in the area today, no parking near Steves but found free parking with a Barber right next to it down the road.

      Michaels Hairdresser
      $20

      71 Russell St West End

      Good job.

Thanks altomic, exactly what im looking for, and old school dude that has been cutting hair for 50 years. None of this fancy new age hippy stuff.

Might take a trip down there next week if i cant find anything local.

    • I recommend - though I haven't been there for 4 years as I've let my hair grow. - but he was great. none of that evening up the sides. he'd cut once and done.

  • I was having a discussion with my hairdresser about barbers about what exactly is the difference as I've never been to a barber. In this I found out that hairdressing is way more complicated than I thought it was.

I always give myself a Buzz cut, cost me nothing :)

  • try and avoid going in or around the cbd as you can expect to pay around that 30-35 mark.

those 10 dollar haircuts are really only a 10 dollar haircut. i tried them once and thought i could do a better job myself lol.

Chermside westfield has a couple places you can still get a haircut for $20.

But like altomic said if you venture around the burbs you can get a better price and more of a personalized service

  • There is a barber in the Mcwirthers building in the valley. I think they are all chinese, but they look like old school guys. Sign says $12. I have not tried them myself.

    • Thanks ill check it out

      • Cheers
Let me know how you go.

  • Is it an option for you to DIY with a hair clipper?

    Something like this:

Being a true Ozbargainer, I've been using my $20 Remington hair clipper since 2011:

    I get many compliments.
