Commendable (?) Experience with Kmart

I purchased a bicycle just before the last long weekend, can't recall what it was (About 1 month ago).

Bought a decent bicycle for $149 from Kmart Mt Druitt. The brakes didn't work.

I returned to a different KMart (Local Kmart), and told them of the issue. They apolgoised. They advised the bike doesn't even have a break pad, hence it isn't working. (I'm not too knowledgeable with Disc Brakes so I didn't know this - Don't laugh). Anyway, they said can take up to 6 weeks for new parts to come from overseas.

They can't give me another piece as it was the last stock anywhere in this area (Within 50km at least). Anyway there was a lot of back and forth trying to come up with a solution to get this bike back to me quicker.

Staff didn't do anything. Eventually raised with Manager and he did something weird. He managed to secure another bicycle (He said that one of his friends from another store "owed him a favour") and so he managed to get hold of the bike. Then he took the brakes of that bike and put them onto my already assembled bike, gave me $50 voucher goodwill and PERSONALLY delivered the bicycle to my house…IN HIS OWN Audi.

I wasn't home when the delivery came…but my Mother told me it was an Audi… I'm assuming Q-Series since it was a decent sized men's bike.

But surely I can't be the only person who finds this weird? (But awesome!!!)

I was really thankful to the guy by the way. I made sure I left positive feedback for his manager to see.

Thoughts?

If you know his name, you should write something on K-Mart's Facebook page :) (simplify the story in case he did the wrong thing lol ie - Thanks to Mr Bloggs for going above and beyond, really helped!")

God knows there's not enough positivity on social media these d!ays

Slightly similar story. Two years ago at one of the Big W one day sales, they were promoting a flagship phone on sale, but only had one in stock! I know they only had one, because I lined up before opening time.

I went to the front of the store and asked for a raincheck. They called the manager and I talked calmly with the manager about it being not satisfactory that they can send out their 1000s of leaflets with this phone highlighted at the top left, and taking up a quarter of the page, but then only have one in stock!

She wouldn't give me a raincheck. But she did drive to another Big W 30km away (60km return) and she got a phone for me. I picked it up from the Lay By desk later.

They prolly did it to claim a generous km reimbursement.

Trust me - IT doesn't go bad at all. Full sized, good suspension, 21 shimano gears ( i think). Front disc brake, rear brake pads.

$149 - bargain but its standard pricing.

      • Yep, but working in a bike shop I can say that just because the gears say shimano doesn't mean that they are of any quality at all. The amount of death traps I've seen come in with the forks around the wrong way etc straight from the store is crazy… Once you get it serviced once you were probably better off buying a low end bike from a store that put it together properly.
