Places to Buy Gardening Plants (Lavender, Hedges etc)

Good morning!

My mum is all eager to start gardening since she has so much time on her hands after retirement but she is completely at loss as to where to go to buy plants for her new garden?

She has looked at thousands of Pinterest posts and finally decided on a theme she likes. The plants included Salvia, Achillea, Nepeta, Coreopsis,Centranthus, Artemisia plus lavenders (not saying they have to be exactly those plants as i just copied and pasted from a particular post with the photo of the garden that looked pretty to my mum).

Could you please recommend me several places around Sydney we could go and get the plants at reasonable cost? Her garden is HUGE and it would cost a fortune to try fill the place up.

None of my family members are into gardening and we don't even know where to start looking to be honest.

Thanks :)

Try your local Swap Meet/Trash & Treasure quite often there are people there selling cheap plants.

Has she considered growing from seeds? Packets of seeds (around 25-1000 seeds per pack depending on the type of plant) are pretty cheap from Reject Shop or Bunnings. I personally think it's more fun to see them grow from scratch.

Bunnings also sell plants - I've seen small starter pots of flowers or herbs for $2 or so - but I don't know how affordable the rest are.

  • I found Coles sell little baby plants at a much cheaper price compare to Bunnings etc.

Around $1.80 each, bought myself and plant them. But those are for vegetable such as Basil, Chives etc

Join the local gardening group on facebook and she can give and swap for free (and learn a lot).
