Apple Pay with AmEx Offers (Like Shop Small)

Hey folks,

I've participated in a bunch of Amex Offers, including a few Shop Small promotions, but this is the first one for which I've had Apple Pay. I noticed after spending $20 at the first participating location that I didn't get the email shortly thereafter. I pondered for a moment, and realised that when you add your ANZ card to Apple Pay, Apple Pay generates or acquires a different card number. Naturally, this was NOT the card number I registered for Shop Small. Apple seems to indicate that they don't store the generated card number, so I don't see how I can extract it, and register it.

Do I need to refrain from using Apple Pay? Has anyone used Apple Pay in conjunction with one of the Amex Offers that requires registering a card?

    I've just used it yesterday with my Apple Watch and it worked. I got email immediately.

      Interestingly, in the Watch.app (on the iPhone), under Wallet, the card numbers reflected there match the actual card numbers. This is different from the Wallet App on the iPhone, which has unique numbers. I wonder if the problem is only for the iPhone? Do the numbers in your Watch.app and Wallet.app (on the iPhone) differ?

      To see the card number on the iPhone, tap the (i) for the card, and scroll down to Card Information. Unlike the watch, there is also "Device Account Number".

    Interestingly, while I did not get the email, I got the credit. I wrote Amex and got this reply:

    Dear Jason,

    Thank you for enquiry about Apple Pay.

    When transacting with Apple Pay , instead of using your Card number, Apple Pay assigns you an encrypted, unique Device Account Number. When you make a purchase, this number, along with a transaction-specific code, is used to process your payment. Once the transactions is securely received by American Express, the relationship between your Device Account Number and Card Account Number is identified, and transaction is processed to your account, and statement credit generated.

    I had chat online with AMEX Support, they told me using Apple Pay or Android Pay or Samsung Pay is same as using physical card which is eligible to redeem all AMEX offers.
