NBN in NW TAS

Anyone using NBN in NW Tas? Just hooked up with Telstra fixed wireless and pings are bloody shocking. IP is based in Launceston even though I'm up Devonport way. Called up tech support and was told a CVC upgrade was scheduled for 8/11 in Launceston. I get pings of around 100 - 300 ms. Anyone else using NBN in NW Tas? Would be interested to see what your connection is like.

The backend infrastructure isn't completed for NW yet. You're going to get crap speeds for a while until it's closer to completion. The same is happening to a lot of FTTN/FTTP customers too.

They haven't bought enough bandwidth for their customers either, particularly in the rural areas. It's a statewide issue.

    • Exactly what I thought. Thanks. So I guess this means no matter what provider you go with you'd be in the same boat with high pings/congestion etc? Any idea when it's meant to be completed?

It's possible that other providers would be better, but very unlikely as Telstra are very proactive in getting extra bandwidth. Estimated completion is around August-November 2017.

I'd give it a week or two and try Telstra again.
