Why anyone would go for panadol is absolutely insane

    • -3

Nurofen for me paracetamol not string enough

      • +8

The type of pain you are suffering might respond better to an NSAID as opposed to paracetamol
In terms of strength, both are classed as simple analgesia :)

      • +6

        Flintstones Chewable Morphine

        • haha great simpsons reference

        • -2

@Kapinny: Except that these tablets have no opiate component.

          So not really.

        • @Diji1:

I guess so, the comment just reminded me of that episode

      • +1

dont buy neurofen or panadol. go with cheap generic brands, exactly the same acting ingredient (ibuprofen or paracetamol). i saw Panadol Osteo the other day (targeting back pain) and it just had 625mg of Paracetamol, instead of the normal 500. so really its not special at all, just has a tiny bit more in each tablet..

less than 1c per paracetamol. vs like 40c in brands like panadol/neurofen.

        • +6

          That's just wrong

Panadol osteo is sustained release, formulated in a way to release the paracetamol over a longer period of time.

It's not just simply 'more paracetamol "

        • @pasey25: ok maybe i was wrong there, maybe i got confused with neurofen pretending to target areas

        • +2

          @pasey25:

          That is correct
Also the recommended dosing is 2 tablets 3x a day as opposed to 2 tabs 4x a day

        • +3

@Kapinny: Because in any case no one is allowed to take more than 4000mg of paracetamol in any 24 hrs

        • I've been using the generic Nurofen Plus which is much cheaper but it just doesn't seem to work as well. It tastes disgusting so obviously it's cheaply produced, I can get around that, but why doesn't it work as well if it's meant to have the same ingredients?

        • @Spooked: check the actual amounts of codeine in the generic vs neurofen plus, in panadiene or any of the generics the amount does vary.
Also the taste is probably different if they added suger/artical flavour or not.
Otherwise all medications must be the same.
Hospitals use the generic brand all the time.

        • @Shanda:
It's exactly the same amounts, Ibuprofen 200mg Codeine Phosphate 12.8mg.

        • @pasey25: If you watch "The Checkout" with the chasers team they do a whole segment on medication and explain that it's just all hogwash.

        • +2

          @krisosha:

That's about targeted pain relief, not about sustained release.

          Totally different things.

    • +1

      What's wrong with panadol?

      • +4

        Price!

      • Think he means why would anyone ever buy the branded stuff

        • Ah right, following now.

EDIT: Although I believe these tablets are pretty big compared to panadol.

        • +2

          @Medlee:

Nah it's the sharp edges and the taste

        • @tony abbott: +1. Too big for me to swallow whole, hard to snap in half without a knife, and shreds your throat on the way down

        • @Medlee: I think tablets are not bigger but just shape is different. Both contains 500 mg of paracetamol so that will weight 500mg on scale.

      • It's just Paracetamol with 10+ different labels, shapes and sizes.

    • +3

Not sure why you are getting downvoted.
      Panamax 100 x 500mg Paracetamol = $0.69
      Panadol 100 x 500mg Paracetamol = $10.99
Same ingredients, but costs 16x more.

      • +2

Panamax is compressed and packed in India by Sanofi's TGA approved facility where as GSK buys paracetamol from India and compress it here in TGA approved facility. So if one wants to support Made in Australia then can buy panadol which is made from imported ingredient.

How can I get these in bulk? Like 100 boxes at this price?

    • Planning to send and sell to China?

    • +6

      Start a chemist warehouse franchise

    • -6

To answer, without racist innuendo, I don't think Chem Warehouse is placing an upper limit to purchases*.

I'm guessing they're not likely to fulfil your order beyond a certain pre-determined point.

      You could make multiple accounts
call Sonafi aventis directly about suppliers and bulk purchases.

*(which is strange since there stores now limits most common medications to >1 per visit.

      • that's not racist. dunno what you'ra talking about

      • +1

        To answer, without racist innuendo

What racist innuendo? Selling to China is just pure business for some people. Just like how grey imports for electronics have boomed in Australia thanks to Gerry Harvey and his Liberal friends, demand for high quality pharmaceutical goods is booming in China because of Australia's apparently strict quality control.

Why else would one need 100 boxes of 100 tablets? That's 5000 adult doses, or three years worth of someone who takes 4 daily (good luck to your body..)
This isn't just happening for OTC medication, prescription medication is being resold as well.
There are people who are reselling medication, by going to a doctor to obtain a prescription, then purchasing subsidized (by your tax) medication, and reselling to overseas buyers.
So the costs to Australian society and health are:
        - Time wasted, medicare money wasted at the Doctor, they could have been seeing a genuine patient that needs medical attention.
        - Subsidized PBS medication is meant to ensure people who cannot afford the full price of medicine can do so
        - Subsidy that went into that resold medication could have been put towards medication meant for Australians (because we paid for the subsidy)
        - These resellers are not licensed pharmacists or doctors, nor do they even know their "customers" health situation. It's the same as buying medication off the street from some guy in the alleyway.
        - Health implications of recipient taking the wrong medicine? Damage to their body? If the resold drugs are antibiotics, then possible unregulated abuse of antibiotics leads to increased chance of antibiotic resistant strains of bacteria.

This is done over the same channels as milk powder markets, wechat. (Whatsapp for Asia)

I don't think Chem Warehouse is placing an upper limit to purchases*.

You can only add one to cart for both stores buddy, if you bothered to click the link

call Sonafi aventis directly about suppliers and bulk purchases.

What, for one box of panamax? Do you have any clue how wholesalers, distributors and retail stores work..?

One small phrase opened such a can of worms

        • @centrelink:

For want of a nail, the horseshoe was lost. For want of a horseshoe, the steed was lost. For want of a steed, the message was not delivered. For want of an undelivered message, the war was lost. - Kamata, 2006.

For want of some profit, the medicine was lost. For want of some medicine, the doctor's time was lost. For want of the doctor's time, the medical attention was not delivered (to someone else). For want of undelivered medical attention, someone's life was lost. - Cwongtech, 2016.

        • @cwongtech: Awww. That's a beautiful story.

        • @wolfenator87: thx buddy. Pretty cool story yeah?

I definitely appreciated the pain relief this post offered.

If the normal price is $1, are the savings worth the 20 minutes of petrol consumption when I wouldn't have gone otherwise?

These do nothing at all, Panadeine Extra is the good stuff, feels like you've downed 2 six packs.

  • -5

No thanks. Much rather use real painkillers, oxy/forte/Vicodin/panath

    No point taking half measures.

    • +7

with that attitude, enjoy the journey towards dependence.

    • +2

      you forgot heroin bro

    • Well it depends on how much pain your in. No point in killing a fly with a bus. Less is best.

    • codeine junkie right here (me)

  • Are these ones made in the UK or elsewhere?

    • I believe most paracetamol products are made in India

  • Thanks. Just in time for my exam tomorrow.

I visited a Chemist Warehouse today to pick some up, they only let me buy 2 packs and the $0.69 deal is only for this weekend.

  • -5

This is a clear act of aggression by a chemist warehouse employee based on the deal that was posted here a few weeks back…
OzBargainers are not that interested in these tablets are they?
Also i may even start a petition to ban parmacuticals off OzBargain if there's interest…

Clearly this guys a phony but given the 80+ upvotes i am confuse…
