A119 Dashcam Questions

Have a 2016 i30. It has two 12v in front and a 12v in boot.

Looking at dashcams and A119 seems good value. More expensive then some but better quality.

Do they just plug into cigarette lighter?
How long is the cable? With the boot, plug is obviously fixed but boot opens so need enough slack for it to work.
Is there a clean way to install in the front? Ideally don't want a cable running across the whole front dash and up the windscreen.

I have the a118c and im guessing they arent that much different…

Yep straight in the cigarette lighter port.
The cable included with the a118c was quite long, long enough to go from the cigarette lighter in the centre then through the glovebox, up the pillar then to the centre of the windscreen.
And to install in the front you should go through the pillar then hide the cable in the roof (though your car might have airbags in the pillar? which might make it annoying)

The cable that comes with the A119 ends with a USB plug
So you can just plug it in to an existing USB port or car charger that you may already have rather than being forced to use the bulky cigarette plug and take up a cigarette port.

      • Amps maybe an issue from what I was reading? Needs 3.1 and most were saying their car ports are less.

So I'll need to buy an adapter to use cig lighter neatly? Unsure why it's enormous vs a normal cig->usb adapter.

We've got four A119s now & none had any problem with a standard USB port; I'd recommend giving it a try first, I think you'll be pleasantly surprised.

Pay the few bucks extra to get the unit with the GPS module, you'll find that in addition to the cool features, it helps route the cable better as well due to different plug placement.

I've also got an A118c, and as noted already the cable ends in a cig lighter plug, and is a bit of a pain TBH…but both models have ample cable length for routing around pillars & under dash (in all cases with length to spare, luckily they provide cable ties).

  • I have an A119 the cable is plenty long and in most cars you can tuck the cable under the trim.
On top of this it includes a bunch of little adhasive clips for cable management.
Mine runs from the usb port on my Roidmi 2s (3.8A dual) and still works while charging my phone.

  • Hi, My a119s cable was in two peices, after a car clean and I am looking for a replacement.
Any idea where can I find a reliable one cheaper

    Thanks
