Wedding Insurance - Is It Worth It?

Hi All,

Getting married soon and have heard about this product called Wedding insurance. Wondering if anyone on ozbargain has used it for their own wedding and had to claim or can recommend me a good one to use.

Think of all the weddings that you've ever heard of or been to. Do you know how many used wedding insurance? 0. There's probably a reason for that.

Wedding insurance is a scam, if you plan your wedding right, then you wont need insurance.

Unless you specialise in wedding events - there are a large number of suppliers that you have to deal with that you have never dealt with before. Obviously I do my research in advance and get contacts from friends and family but you never know what will happen on the day.

Why would you need wedding insurance? In case you call it off?

  • In case you marry the wrong person?

Some of these comments are surely just trolling. As an example I meant something like in the case where suppliers I have engaged with and had to pay upfront with don't follow through.
One of the ones I was considering:

Really, you should be contacting the suppliers a few weeks before the wedding to make sure everything's confirmed. Those few phone calls can be enough to make sure. If the florist is sick you can just get a relative/guest to do you a solid and go pick them up.

Property damage coverage may be useful, but the venue itself (be it a private hirer or council land) would have public liability insurance

  • OP, even disastrous weddings can lead to beautiful marriages. The wedding lasts a few hours and then it's over. Your marriage will (hopefully) last a lifetime. Try not to stress too much about the wedding. In the scheme of things, the wedding is not important. Plan it to the best of your ability, and then enjoy it. My wedding was planned to within an inch of its life, and there were still one or two stuff-ups. Even if it goes to plan I guarantee you will still find a few things wrong (e.g. the calamari wasn't crumbed right). Just enjoy the day, your guests, your family and your partner.

PS Be sure to take lots of photographs. This is more important than wedding insurance.

Thanks for your comment and I do agree with you on the most part. If the only thing that was wrong at my wedding was the crumbed calamari I would be ecstatic :-) I am not a Bridezilla or anything - just trying to manage my risk.

isn't having a backup partner in case you get sick of the one you're marrying the real marriage insurance?

    Hey Guys,

I think that some of you are missing the point of wedding insurance. It's less about the day itself and more about the 12-24 months of planning beforehand. My friend lost $8,000 when her wedding venue went bankrupt last year. I didn't hesitate to get wedding insurance for our wedding (next year). It's such a small expense compared to the rest of the wedding costs.

    • @katyM which wedding insurance company did you use?

      • We used Dream Wedding Insurance. They were the only ones that would insure us 18 months before the wedding

  • Do you get paid out if she has an affair with her best friends husband and runs off with him taking the house and savings with her………
I wish I had paid a premium for that……rather than paying premium
