Clicking on a deal should fire up a NEW browser window and not redirect to deal page (Change Request)

Hey,

A long time bugbear of mine is that when I click on ozbargain deal image i just get a redirect to the deal page.

It would be much more convenient to fire up a new window for a deal instead of the redirect.

That way I could research 5 or 6 deals at once without ever leaving the ozbargain site.

I know I could just use left click, "open link in new tab" but I reckon only about 30% of standard users know how to do this.

I would like to file a change request with Scotty to get this tweaked.

Please vote below.

Clicking on a deal image should:

Poll Options

  • 20
fire up a new browser window (change)
  • 20
    redirect to deal (as is)
  • 1
do something completely different (please explain)

    i agree
but no one's gonna do shi*t

  • Plugins like Yet Another Drag and Go are the solution. Click and drag to open a new tab. In no time you'll have the whole front page in tabs. Also good for opening images open webpages directly.

Because 70% of users right click to Open in New Tab instead ;)

Yeah - I always go right through the front page, right clicking and opening new tabs on anything interesting.
I then go through them all in details.
However, I believe this screws me over when Scotty does any sort of pop-up competition where you win a prize if you click on it straight-away as its always a couple minutes before I go through all my open tabs…

doesn't matter, the people who win are usually sitting on the page hitting refresh over and over anyway. stupid system for giving away prizes, almost as bad as giving away tshirts at meetups before they have even started……..

Am I missing something? Are you talking about the same thing that happens when you use your middle click button on a link from the mouse? (The click with the scroll on it) sort of function?

    • OH MY GOD. HOW DID I NEVER KNOW THIS?!!!

I was reading this in bed last night and the first thing i did when i turned my computer on today was check this out :') hahaha can't believe it!! This needs a PSA! haha

It's already an option in account settings?

    Deals open in new window
Whether to open the deal in a new browser window/tab.

I must've turned it on when I signed up because that's how it's always been for me ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

That setting has been in there since Oct 2011… Prior to when OP created his account.

  • Why cant you simply use the right mouse button and click open in new tab or open in new window? Is it really that difficult to do rather than trying to change the whole system for everyone?

There are actually several ways to achieve what you want with keyboard/mouse shortcuts

    Open new window
    Shift + click on link
Right click on link -> open in new window

    Ctrl + click on link
Right click on link -> open in new tab
Mouse click link with scroll button

  • Mac user?

Click on a link with your mouse scroll button dude.

  • control + click opens in new tab, on pc and mac….
    isnt hard bro
