Cashrewards Won't Honour an eBay Purchase Claim

MOD: Issue has been resolved, as reported by OP. Thread closed.

Hi guys,

Just a quick one, as I assume it's probably a bit futitle.

Purchased a ~$2480 laptop off ebay during the 20% sale. Before making the purchase, I made sure I had clicked through from cashrewards -> eBay. Twice.
Went ahead with the purchase and the Cash Rewards email never came through.

Contacted Cash Rewards, gave them all the information required, and long story short they claim I did not click through from their website to eBay. This is not true. Of course I would make sure if it means a ~$44 rebate.

Is there anything I can do from here?

Any help/advice would be great.
Thanks

    Which browser did you use?

They don't owe you anything. You're out of luck.

    It's only $31 (1.25% cashback). Move on.

  • Unless you can prove that you clicked through it is pointless… just your word to go with unless someone knows how to trace such things from a users end?
Retailer has no indication that it was a click through from cashrewards?

Clicking through the site isn't all you have to do… make sure you had any ad-block or VPN services which might affect the cookies on your device were also off during the purchase.

  • True, thanks for the comments guys. I realised it wasn't something I could pursue too easily.

It might've been ad-blocker that caused it. It's weird though, because I haven't had an issue with it before.

    • I had problems with CR picking up purchases when I had an ad blocker turned on, since I disabled the ad-blocker for the CR site and any sites I purchase from with CR rebates they have all come through without issue.

I use a separate browser (Internet Explorer) that is stock standard, no add-ons etc. when I use Cashrewards. Never had a problem.

Yeah, I am sure TA has done his best

I try to use a completely different browser for all CR purchases.

while i'm not a fan, you have to keep in mind they want it to go through too because they would get a cut from every cashback they give.

Yea I know that feeling, sucks that it didn't track for any of many possible reasons.

But don't get too hung up on it. I treat Cashrewards as bonus snack money.

Just enjoy your laptop - I for one would love to be able to afford a 2k laptop :)

Have you checked in your click history if the ebay click was registered?
    https://www.cashrewards.com.au/clicks

    • The history shows the clicks didn't register. Damn! :(

For future purchases, get their new chrome addon, it glows green when you've successfully clicked through so you know exactly when you're active!

    • +1

Ah thanks for that. I'll grab the addon now!

    • I don't think this works all the time. I have my purchases untracked with the add-on showing green.

      • I would've made 300+ or more transactions with Cashrewards and every single one has tracked. I have honestly never had an issue. Perhaps I'm just lucky?

  • DId't think you could use a voucher and get cashback?

    • You can as long as the voucher/discount code is advertised on Cashrewards as well.

Cash rewards is scammy at best.

Cashrewards can't pay cashback if the affiliate networks either don't track or reject the payment. I work with a few affiliate networks and see it all the time.

A lot of these networks use cookies to track purchases. Some ad blockers, browser plugins, browser settings and even antivirus programs can prevent these tracking cookies from being stored. This causes the purchase not to be tracked. Another reason is using coupons. Some of the popular online stores at Ozbargain regularly void my tracked commission through the affiliate networks as the clicker has used a coupon. You can't expect a store to pay out when their coupon and commission make them a loss.

This is why Cashrewards have a disclaimer mentioning both coupons and adblock.

Def not a scam. Have cashed out over $500 and have another $217 odd waiting in my balance. Cashouts have been into my bank within 24 hours.

I'm willing to bet they all had ad blockers or similar software running.

I've been using them for quite a while now and purchases always get tracked, even the very large ones.

Cash rewards is scammy at best.

Ebay and Ali-Express have tracked perfectly for me. A few smaller sites did not track properly and had to use support to get it done, no system is perfect, and they were added manually.
Which site did it not track for you? There's a support button for untracked purchases, it's there for a reason.
I've been paid out over $90 so far, though not as much as some high rollers on this site.

A lot of circle-jerking from the same vocal members too.
Why don't you reach out to them to try solve it first before you cry wolf?

      Please link affected deals?

    Hey guys,

Thought I'd give an update on things.

I have just received an email saying that my purchase has now been tracked, despite receiving an email this morning saying it was not possible.
I went and checked out my click history, yet the clicks through to eBay are still not registered, despite receiving the rebate.

    I wonder what changed..
Perhaps someone watching over this thread? Who knows.

In any case, thanks to most of the kind people who gave me advice!
I guess the moral of story is to not use an ad-blocker/vpn when utilizing Cash Rewards.

The laptop arrived today, it's pretty rad. I guess I'll be on my way then!
