Citibank did credit enquiry though application was never submitted

My partner started applying for citibank`s credit card but she decided not to proceed. When she existed the application, she received an email with reference number in case she wants to resume application.

She has received updated credit report today and it shows credit enquiry from citibank. What she should do?

Is bank able to reverse this enquiry?

Once you start an application, there's a line asking if you consent to the T&C and the page stated clearly about accessing your credit check and if you clicked yes, it basically consented to this.

    • Back luck then… She thought she would be giving consent before submitting application on the last page.

Edit:I just initiated application via mobile and it did not ask for any consent. Where is that T&Cs line?

      • It's probably triggered automatically once you submit.

  • What's the big deal with it as it's just an enquiry on your wife's credit file? It will also lower her credit score a little but unless your wife is applying for credit often it isn't going to matter much.

But to answer your question, yes citibank can have the enquiry removed. Write to them (email) stating you did not submit the application and therefore the enquiry should be removed. If they don't agree you can take it to the financial ombudsman.

    • Thanks for your feedback. We do intend to apply for home loan in Q1 next year so it affects our rating.

  • Perhaps just go through with the application.
Must have made decision to apply for it.

  • I had a similar issue with the bank. I decided to close my account but raised the issue with the operator , they failed to do anything for about two months (I think it way pay back for refusing their inticing offer to stay). For some reasons I had 2 inquiries and other wierd listings by the bank. I wrote to Veda who swiftly launched an investigation, short story, in over one month my credit report was adjusted removing about 4 listings by The lender.
