Any insights what to look out for when buying an electric bicycle here in Oz, which brand has a good reputation and good support. Looking for something around $1000, maybe up to $1500. Thanks!

thanks for the reply - over xmas ran the idea past my wife and she does not want me on the road on a bike (electric, petrol or otherwise) she thinks it's to dangerous in Sydney traffic. Sort of have to agree, saw quite a few pretty bad crashes recently.

I purchased an electric kit off Luna-mate - but that involves you installing the kit yourself, on a bike of your choice. I tell you, it's a very good kit / top of the line. It will set you back $1800 just for the kit tho (includes everything but the bike).
Or, if you want to buy the bike outright, you could check this guy out. He is very good & will convert a bike for you to electric, or let you purchase a electric bike outright.
Just be mindful, there are a lot of crap electric bikes out there. Read the reviews, the bafang electric bikes (that I linked to above) are some of the best value electric motors out there currently.
