Calamvale Hotel - Pressure Lounge, McGuires - Foreign Passport Not Acceptable For Entry

Took a couple of friends who are visiting from overseas, wanted to go to the pressure lounge tonight.

Howver, when they went to the scanner tonight, the security person said, no, since we can't scan your foreign passport, no entry allowed. He said it was McGuires policy.

I don't get it, a foreign passport is valid ID for everything, from casinos to opening bank accounts etc., yet they want people to fork out $100+ for either an 18+ card or a QLD Drivers license.

Security guy said it's private property, they can do what they want, and they wanted to scan all id's. How is this allowed though, it feels like refusing coins because notes are easier to scan.. ????

Should a venue be allowed to refuse a foreign passport as valid ID and refuse entry to patrons?

  • Isn't the real question here - why go to the Calamvale Hotel? Did you want to show the tourists some genuine Aussie bogans?

      Head to the Greenbank

    • Close by walking distance. I'm not sure but I think some clubs in the valley do this as well?

I would not go to a place that wants to scan my id. Just take your business elsewhere.
Who has access to the scanned ids? How are the recors stored? When are the records disposed of? Do you really trust a pub with your personal info? Do you know how much troubles some criminal could cause you if they had your name, surname, dob, address, drivers license number and photo.

    • some very valid points there….

    • the records don't get disposed of, they're actually sold to 3rd parties for advertising purposes

  • The website:
    https://www.business.qld.gov.au/industry/liquor-gaming/liquo…

    states:
    "Acceptable forms of ID

Five forms of ID are acceptable in licensed venues:

an adult proof of age card
a recognised proof of age card (e.g. Keypass identity card)
Australian driver licence or learner permit
    foreign driver licence
    passport (from any country)."

    BUT… then it also says…

"It is up to you to decide what ID will be accepted to gain entry to your licensed premises. It is also your responsibility to establish effective policies or rules regarding the checking of ID."

So, self-determination on a venue by venue basis?

  • No Pressure Lounge for you!

  • it's a ghetto of a place i'd be embarrassed to go there full stop to be honest
