  • must it be petrol?

I've been using an ozito electric hedge trimmer for the last 6 years (big hedge -3m high, 10 m wide) at front fence, smalller hedge against house - 1.6m high, 10 m wide) with out issue.

    • Preferably with petrol.

      Is yours a rechargeable battery?
      or wired with power cable?

      • power cable.

I installed an outlet next to the front fence when I built my electric gate.

        • I am thinking of getting Shindaiwa 22DH

        • @mma: nice

  • How much snipping will you be doing and how thick? Corded can be annoying, but cordless is pretty good now. I've got a ryobi 18v cordless. It does my yard (850m2 block with quite a few sections) on one charge and despite it not being overly powerful will cut through thick stuff if you take it easy enough. Cost around $200.

Sure, I need to make sure the batteries are charged, but its easy to pop it back on charge after use and lithium batteries will hold charge for long enough to wait for next time you need it for the garden. I've got a cordless hedger and blower to go with it and can almost do the hedges edges and cleanup on one charge. Doesn't matter though as I've got extra batteries from other tools to suit.

    • Probably use it every month, not too thick.

Is it because of less maintenance that made you choose the cordless with battery?

      • I had the batteries from other tools (drill etc) and definitely prefer charging batteries than mucking around with petrol and two stroke oil. My petrol snipper was getting difficult to start as well so I figured I'd try the cordless and it worked out well. Electric starts 1st time every time and it's quieter as well.

The 36v snipers are probably better, and if I had my time again I'd probably pick one up as I'm running a 36v mower now. It's been about 3 years since I had to buy a can of petrol to tidy up the garden.

        • Thanks
Will consider the 36v cordless trimmer

I used to have wired hedge trimmer when we were in a house, true that it always start straight away. Nothing to worry about maintenance?

  • I've got a bosch cordless and my hedge is 47m x 2/2.5m. Does the whole thing easily and cuts quite large stuff (have a mix of different plants in the hedge). Works way better than i thought it would. Cost about $200.

    • Wow, you have one big hedge.

How long have you been using the bosch?
Have you replaced the battery yet?

      • I've had it for about 18 months, same as the hedge :) … no new battery yet
