Where to Buy Surface Pro 3 Charger?

Today my surface charger stopped working and my laptop is completely dead. The charger looks completely fine on the outside but it does look like the long cable end has been strained a bit. The Unfortunately my warranty ran out 5 months ago. I looked up the prices on the Microsoft site and it was $125 which is way more than I was prepared to pay, I've also found some third party ones for around $50-60.
Just wondering if anyone had experience/suggestions in regards to what to do.
I'm happy to buy the original charger from Microsoft if there is a difference in performance and also would it be worth shooting an email to microsoft?

Thanks in advanced :D

That's pretty expensive, username checks out.

  • Yeah 1 year warranties are pretty messed up and probably against ACL. Id call them up and start spouting some choice extracts from the ACL if they say no. It really should last two years minimum. Even Apple provides 2 years.

  • There was a recall on SP3 power supplies due to an issue that sounds very much like you have here

Google surface ac power cord recall and you'll find a link to check

    • the recall was the 240v AC end. MS only supplied that end not the whole psu.

  • get a generic from ebay for ~$25 delivered

got a multimetre? carefully splice the wires of the cable near the power supply end . test if it is working and that it's not a problem with the cable.
