But what are some good places to go that's not outrageous in price? Please don't say Bankstown. lol
Is it possible that I get some last minute booking crazy prices? Like Late december booking for early Jan?

Thanks just bought some tickets through these guys.
Think they seem to cater for Indians etc mostly, but it was good booking a flight to Europe.
They were close to the cheapest online price, but couldn't match all.
I don't think waiting for late December will help.

check out ebay. Found a wholesaler, who had some flights to USA departing December 29 or January 5 for only $1399. Their latest advert says $1599, but think they are negotiable,as they own the seats apparently.
Do a ebay search under
airfare to USA & you should find it.
I have been using http://www.bestandlesstravel.com.au/ since it's been around. They have almost always managed to fetch a cheaper price for fares than I have ever been able to find by myself.
You may have to pay much more than normal, considering the circumstances you've described.
