Yomojo Referral Fiasco

Ok so Yomojo has this referral bonus promotion going on where you get 2 months of free service after you sign up (https://yomojo.com.au/ppc/unli-6gb-29-90-v1/?promo=YMJAW)

They also have another promotion where an existing Yomojo subscriber can refer a new customer for a $20 referral credit (to both the referrer and the referee)

My Story:
I used another Ozbargainer's (bazinga8888) referral and signed up for the 2 months free promotion expecting to get both promotions applied. I didn't get the bonus referral credit, so I read up on their terms and conditions and I came across this : "The Member Get Member promotion is not intended to be available with any other offer or promotion." And I thought that was fair enough, maybe getting 2 months free AND then getting a referral bonus was too much of a killer deal but I still thought bazinga8888 would have received his $20 referral credit because in theory HE didn't combine two offers.

Since then I have referred 3 people to Yomojo (2 of whom have activated their SIM cards) expecting to get the referral bonus. I was surprised to see that I received $0 in credit and when I brought it up with a customer care agent I got this reply:

Please note that you can only avail of one promo at a time, as stated on our terms and conditions. Since you already chose the 2 mos free, the referral bonus is voided.

Is this fair? I actually brought 3 or more people to yomojo but i wont get any referral credit simply because I signed up earlier for a 2 months free promotion? I don't think this is right and their terms and conditions isn't clear enough. They may amend the T&C soon because I raised this issue. For now you can check it out here: (https://yomojo.com.au/home/terms#mgm)

Any other ozbargainers facing the same issue?

  • The Member Get Member promotion is not intended to be available with any other offer or promotion.

    • in theory the referrer didn't combine two offers.

      • You did though, you get 2 months free…

        • Agreed. So the referral bonus should not be credited to me during sign-up. But for my own future referrals I am not combining offers.

      • So for example. Even 6 months down the line, if I refer like 50 people; I get no credit simply because I took up a sign-up offer when i joined yomojo

        • Have you confirmed this or are you just assuming? Maybe the ban is just for the first 3 months? If not, that's easy to fix, just leave and rejoin and don't take the free 2 months.

        • @greenpossum: I have confirmed this with their customer care. also, leaving and rejoining wont work. T&C Clause:

Not be an existing Yomojo member or previous member within the last 12 months

        • @edrenalin: Leave them for another provider then.

Yes, so the OP can't get a referral bonus and 2 months free when he signs up. That should not mean he doesn't get a referral bonus when his friends join up since that would be a separate matter not in any way connected to the first.

I think its fair enough that you don't receive the $20 referral credit upon signing up since you got the 2 months free - And I would assume that this is what is being referred to in the Ts&Cs. You should still get a referral bonus if you actually refer someone, as this is a separate matter to the initial sign up.

    • Exactly my point. But apparently signing up for an offer voids all future referrals that you may bring in

      • Either their T&Cs are designed to deceive or they are interpreting them in a way they were never meant to be interpreted. Either way they should give you your referral credit. But probably not worth chasing $60. I'd just leave.

        • Think about how many users Yomojo are trying to scam and multiply by the amount of referrals owed. Worth a class action case with the TIO that Yomojo would pay dearly for

      • Future referrals are valid, just the 2 free months invalidates the referral. I wish I knew too. I feel pretty dirty by it. Remember to use cash rewards for $45 cash back

        • Pfft… and now I find that referral credit cannot be used to top-up/ pay a monthly bill/ add a bolt-on package for data. the referral credit can only be deducted when you use/overshoot a service that is not part of your monthly plan.

This is the most USELESS referral scheme I have seen in ages. Gonna switch back to Vaya

        • @edrenalin: Yomojo tried to tell me this too but we customers have never specified our credit to be used as PAYG so for Yomojo to do so is inappropriate and unconsented. Stand up for your rights and demand your credit owed by Yomojo to you is to be used as customers desire. I got my next 6GB unlimited pack using the remaining balanced owed by Yomojo.

There's also system glitches that say 10GB when should be 12GB. Another glitch is when you specify auto-topup turned off, Yomojo system error still charges you the maximum subscription pack. Must state these system errors when disputing Yomojo. The Yomojo operator Gelo and Daryl are the best ones, and will fix the Yomojo system error like a boss!

        • @lovepeoplenotmoney: I did ask the CR this.. and he highlighted that it was mentioned in the T&C that it was PAYG credit

        • @edrenalin: but what date and where in t&c? Easy to refuse

        • @edrenalin: I chased up Yomojo and the terms and conditions denying our credit balance from going towards a subscription pack must not disadvantage customers in retrospect of the T&Cs revision date.

Meaning, denying the credits (debt owed by Yomojo to customers) with their T&Cs change (e.g. 1 Jan 2017) must not penalise customers who earned their credit balance prior to 1 Jan 2017.

Many repeated discussions revealed Yomojo could not substantiate with evidence of a date of their T&Cs revision that denied customers use of our credit balance for subscription purchase. Meaning, Yomojo intended to disadvantage customers by scamming referrals and retrospectively denying customers effort.

As a result, my current subscription and next month's subscription are honoured. The dispute is also sent to the TIO requesting a class action dispute on behalf of scammed customers.

On a side note, Yomojo systems have failed during Jan 2017 when credit cards were double charged subscription fees. So please check your credit card statement and dispute those Yomojo double charges.

Furthermore, system error should be granting 12GB rather than 10GB for the $45 subscription. So please ensure Yomojo did not charge you and provisioned 12GB.

OzB Yomojo customers from this promotion, please feel free to post any problems for assistance.

        • @lovepeoplenotmoney: TIO complaint was drawn out until the last day, and Yomojo refunded the credit balance to credit card. Please use TIO complaint 2017/01/16063 as precedence reference to get your owed credit balance refunded back to you.

T&Cs aren't allowed to deny customers from using our owed balance for subscription packs in retrospect. Furthermore, Yomojo system has been inappropriately charging our credit cards despite auto top up deactivated.

Yomojo finally honoured one subscription pack but the system glitch is what you wanna avoid. Yomojo deliberately delayed until after business hours to reply my requests in order to avoid the TIO complaint. But more so to expire the subscription and have no service over a weekend + few weekdays to force me to use up the credit balance owed in order to avoid refunding that amount. Beware Yomojo ethical practices.

Yomojo said they will resolve your dispute only if you complain because Yomojo hope none of you else complain, then Yomojo will avoid compensating you all for misleading and unethical administrative practices. Please use TIO complaint 2017/01/16063 to dispute your owed credit balance refunded back to you.

        • @lovepeoplenotmoney: Yomojo will willfully feign ignorance their intention to deny customers in retrospect. Yomojo admitted unable to demonstrate a revision date of the T&Cs that denied customers from using their credit balance until after we all ported to Yomojo.

Please remind Yomojo that automatically charging customers credit card when auto top up was deactivated is without consent and violates consumer law!

Please raise your dispute with the TIO and let's make Yomojo pay for deliberately and persisting to deceive customers!

  • They gave me the (one) referral credit on signup rather than the free 2 months for same reason. I had to get them to change that. I think they think they're being smart in this interpretation but will only lose customers and referrals.

  • I don't know why but I received both promotions: the two months free and referral credit.

  • +1

Don't bother with the referral credit. Only found out you can only use the credit for payg or if u exceeded your plan quota. But i must admit the buy one month get 2 month free offer was worth it. And yomojo doesn't have an app to check quota, pretty crappy.

    • Ye I found that out just last week.. gotta burn through those credits making international calls and then switch providers. Their customer service is pretty crap too

      • I hope you have them because the credit balance owed to us was honoured after a dispute was raised with the TIO. Asking for full refund of our credit balance is highly reasoned, so the request is actually requested on behalf of you all.

    • Read my above response. The quota you have to check online

  • I have $46 credit for PAYG phone and sms which i never use and forced to pay $10 top up every 90 day to stop it expiring. You cannot use credit to purchase DATA packs which I do use.
Got tired of paying for a service i dont use. After complaining about Yomojo deleting my credit and not able to use for purchase of DATA packs, I threatened to complain to TIO and then my complaint was escalated and i was "given" a one of purchase of $39 5GB DATA pack using my PAYG credit. I willing to loose the remaining credit and not top up and not use PAYG service.

So make sure you complain and threaten TIO it get there attension. ( Every complaint investigated by TIO will charge the telco $1000 I have been told.)

    • Good on ya mate.. I switched out from Yomojo months ago

  • I plan too also after I finish this months DATA, disgusting that they take credit and not allow you to purchase their product with it.

    • iAgree.. I just used up all my credit by not going for a plan and just burned through my $45 in referrals in like a month and then switched out. A scam of a referral scheme it is
