Fetch TV box, can be sold?

Hi all, got a Fetch TV box through my Optus NBN plan. However, I couldn't find any use for it, especially when I can do most of the stuff through chromecast, and I don't subscribe to their entertainment plan. Could I sell it to another person on gumtree? Could they still use it even if they're not with Optus? I actually haven't activated the Fetch TV. Just sitting brand new in the box.

Would have thought it would be like foxtel. You don't own the box and will need to send it back at the end of the agreement if requested. I'd double check the t&c's before you go giving it away.

cbb reading T&C…can someone verify this? I am on a 24 months contract though

      • mine has been sitting next to the TV for nearly 4 years. I used it once and it sucked - slow, laggy, kept buffering - maybe it wasn't set up properly. but it had crap content…

        • my exact thought..shitty piece of "Australian" innovation

No. It remains optus property. You will get charged if you do not return it

If you want to know for sure you need to read the T&C or ask them, not ask on OzB. We have FetchTV with iiNet and pay $10/month for it, so it's clearly rented, however I don't know if they'd want it back if we cancelled our plan, since it's not even the newest version anymore, and they may not be able to reuse second hand units anyway. Personally I like it as a PVR very much, so I want to keep it, even though I don't use it for any entertainment packages. You can tape up to 4 shows at once with the latest firmware, and their scheduling feature is great.

    • Hey I think it's good we now have this information here.

  • I sold mine. But the arsehole who bought it kept turning on the subscription so I had to keep calling to turn it off.

I asked them what to do with it and they said I could do whatever I wanted. I hated fetch tv and the lag associated with using the stupid box…

    • I was worried this might be the case, the subscription goes back to you. What did end up doing?

      • Rang up Optus a few times to get my money back. It was a pain. Can't remember if it's worth the $60 i got on selling it..

        • meh..cbb then..

        • @Droid11:
I want to get one just so I can record live TV. How much are you selling it for? I promise not to subscribe ;-)

        • @Beast: PM me your best price…only if you're in WA though
