TP-Link Archer D7 TPG Ultra-Fast Internet Compatibility?

Hey guys

Sorry if someone has already asked this question but I just got a text message from TPG this morning that I can upgrade my ADSL service to Ultra-Fast internet with up to 100 Mbps speed.. I spoke to the consultant on the phone and they said it's NBN and it will cost me only $10 for a new NBN compatible modem.

I have just bought the Archer D7 router lately, so I was wondering if this is TPG nbn compatible?

Thank you so much!

EDIT: I could be wrong…looks like it's not pure NBN it's FTTB (i live in an apartment) …

EDIT 2: I have decided to go with the $10 delivery fee for a new modem to save the trouble haha…

Thanks guys for all your help!

  • I've read conflicting information about the Archer D7 and it's "NBN Ready" sticker on the packaging; some say the eWAN port works fine for NBN straight from the wall socket, some say that the "NBN Readiness" is only when the device is in bridge mode.

For peace of mind, I'd suggest forking out the $10 for the supplied modem, and putting it in Bridge mode with the Archer D7 behind it. Best-case scenario: you needed a NBN modem and got one for a mere ten bucks. Worst-case scenario: you have a spare NBN modem which you can use for troubleshooting.

  • Unlike FTTP which is pure ethernet, FTTN/FTTB requires you to have a VDSL modem. Your D7 only has ADSL2+.

If you want to keep using your D7 and you're correct about being offered FTTB (likely), you'll have to bridge the ISP-supplied modem.

    • I have a D7, plugged into a Netcomm VDSL2 modem. Not bridged, but working perfectly fine. Perhaps some people have problems if they are using the same subnet on both the modem and the D7 (just a wild guess - both may default to 192.168.0.*). I run mine on different subnets.

      • It will work in the basic sense but without bridging you will likely run into Double-NAT issues.
