BBQ Smoker- Any Recommendations/Deals

Evening all,

I'm looking to buy a smoker for a mate as a gift but not sure where to start. I've had a search here and there are no forum topics and only a couple of deals (there was an Anaconda deal and a Masters one)

Budget is around $150.

Is there anything I need to look out for? I mean the idea of a smoker seems simple enough, so can't see why it would be complicated.

Any one has one and can recommend one?

Have you seen any deals pop up?

Thanks guys.

Have a look at vertical gas smokers, an easy way to start. I have a Hark, but there are heaps that are very similar with different branding. I think Aldi was selling one at some stage?

    • Bbqs galore have thus as the cheapest choice :

But then they jump in price considerably after that to 400 and 700…

    • +1 for the Hark, I've had mine for at least 5 - 6 years, when it finally does give up I think I'll be going straight back for another one. Aldi do stock these from time to time under the Coolabah brand, from what I've seen they are identical to the Harks and range between $120 and $200.

While charcoal smokers provide even better results again I'd definitely recommend starting on gas if you're new to smoking, for newbies it can be a bit tricky keeping the charcoals lit and maintaining a consistent temperature.

  • I added a Smokai smoke generator to my existing BBQ, which I think will better suit your budget. Works well if you keep it clean.

    • I quite like the look of that. May I ask what bbq do you have at the moment that it's connected to?

It's a shame the Weber Smokey Mountain prices are so much higher in Aust than USA, otherwise the baby version of those would be an excellent present.

  • I just saw this one on groupon. Not sure how good it would be though.

  • Thanks for all your answers guys, it gives me an idea of what bargains to look for should they come up
