I recently moved houses and my gym is relatively far (6.6km) and the traffic between is horrible it takes me at least 20 minutes on a typical day to get there and it's even worse on the way back. The contract states I can cancel only if the gym is 15km far. Is there anything I can do?

You could make a post about it on an internet forum.
how long left do you have on your contract? If it's close, you could try to cancel it. If you just signed, then probably much harder.
Step 01: Change your address to an address which is at least 15 kms away from the gym (a friend's or relatives).
Step 02: Cancel your gym membership.Yep, mum or dad can help for sure.
I don't know if its possible (I've only seen a gym in movies :p) but I wonder if all else fails and you can't cancel it that you might be able to sell it for someone who doesn't want to be locked into such a long contract.
Need to check the T&C for this. Some memberships aren't 'transferable'. Others charge exorbitant fees for transferring.
Let them know you no longer have appendages (or some other condition) and that most of the equipment is unsuitable
If you are getting a good rate, post it on Gumtree and find someone you can transfer the membership to.
20 minutes isn't too bad a commute really. That's a good trip in Sydney. Maybe start going to the gym early in the morning before work when traffic is quieter?
