iPhone 6 Screen Replacement- Suggestions

Hello, need to change screen for iPhone 6. I remember last time I paid $169 at Apple Store but that was before the iPhone 7. Anyone knows what the current charges are?- I searched online and I could only see $208 at Apple Store. There are some cheaper screen repair places but I am not too sure about their quality. Any suggestions?

Do it at the apple store. If you go to some cheap arse place you risk them screwing it up.

    • Yeah, that's right but $208 is too expensive.

      • It won't be $208.

From when I did it, the $169 included a shipping fee which you don't pay if you go to a apple store. (You pay it if you have to post your phone to apple)

        So it was $150.

It does look like they have changed their pricing structure a bit. See https://support.apple.com/en-au/iphone/repair/screen-damage

It looks like it will be $189. I'd personally pay that for extra piece of mind that it will be done properly.

  • I think the price u paid was ages ago and glass only. If it's out of warranty then go after market or DIY.

  • It's $20 in Bangkok

Its super easy to do yourself. You can buy the screen from eBay for ~$45. Check ifixit for a guide.

I've fixed a few 5c screens and can do it in less than 5 minutes.

It's literally - remove 2 sxrews, gently lift screen, remove 4 screws, take off little metal guard, unclip 3(?) Plugs with spudger tool. And then reverse with new screen.

    • Only worry I have with DIY, as domokun said below is the touch ID sensor

    • Also there's the removal of the flex cables, camera, sensors and speaker which needs to be placed into the replacement screen before assembly - that takes ~5 minutes alone.

  • Generally if you go to the "cheaper" stores, they are most likely going to have non-genuine apple parts.

In some instances of these screens, the adhesive that holds together the glass and the LCD become weak and separate, also the colour isn't as good as original.

Really depends how long you're planning to use it for.

208 sounds about right for apple stores. So if you want original then apple if not, then cheaper stores.

Also quite easy to replace yourself.

    $208.95 https://support.apple.com/en-au/iphone/repair/screen-damage

Be careful with the Touch ID sensor/flex if you decide to replace it yourself

    • That's my only worry if i replace it myself

  • iPhone 6 whole LCD assemblies are ~$40 on eBay and fairly easy to do yourself. Takes less than 10 minutes to do and they come with the tools needed. There's 1000's of video tutorials on youtube.

I recently did a 6s for myself and those are much more expensive due the force touch, starting around $120 on eBay.

Inside shopping centres I've seen those mobile phone repair places advertise around $100 for the replacement (parts + labour) if you don't want to do it yourself.

    • $100 sounds reasonable. I will get it done from one of the local mobile phone repair shops.
