UberEats Melbourne - Anyone Drive/Ride for Them?

Hi All,

Just wanting some info on UberEats in Melbourne. There's a little bit of info about it on the internet but nothing that great..

Does anyone on here work for UberEats in Melbourne? I'm wanting to know more info about what its like during different hours/best locations/pay rates/demand for it at the moment (not what it was like when they were offering minimum hourly rates etc.).

I currently have a few weeks of unemployment and i've got a motorcycle with a tail box so I thought why the hell not.

If you don't feel comfortable posting it in the public domain please feel free to message me.

Greatly appreciated!

I've ridden for them (a lot more a few months ago and seldomly now). FYI: I ride a bicycle, not a scooter or drive a car.

Well; they used to have the promotions where you'd get paid $22.75 if you made 2 deliveries per hour during 12-2 and 6-9 but they don't do that anymore.
Busy areas are around Fitzroy, Brunswick and Prahran area. Now since there's no more guarantee, each delivery will pay you around $7.50 - $12.00 but with an average of $8. I would suggest it as a job if you're just chilling and doing something else that can be just dropped when you get a delivery request and go - rather than just going out with the intention of delivering stuff - because sometimes you will not get a request for over 30 minutes or more.

To be honest, it seemed a lot busier a few months ago, like August - however now it seems it takes awhile to get a delivery request. It might be because of there being more Ubereats drivers now; but even then I don't seem them all that much.

I'm only doing it to supplement income, because it's definitely not something you can do all the time as a full time job - you won't make a lot of money from it.

    • How did you go about receiving your ABN? Did you apply for one online? It seems as though you need to satisfy certain requirements for a successful application - does Uber provide you with the details?

      • No ABN was required for me. I can't be sure for drivers/scooter riders but the reason I joined was because of a friends recommendation because there was no ABN requirement (as we both like riding bikes - why not ride bikes and make some money too?).

EDIT As far as I know - UberEats doesn't require an ABN but Uber does.

        • Oh is that so? I was planning to do UberEats with a bike as well, like you - I guess I kinda got the impression that you'd need an ABN cause I know for certain Deliveroo and Foodora require you to have one and they're similar to UberEats.

In that case, what's the application procedure like? Did you have to go to their office to complete your application?

        • @tastycheeks: It's fairly simple. I applied online as a driver/rider; they send you an email to go to their hub which is in Collingwood; off Wellington St. They'll ask you for some I.D (it's all detailed in the email they send you) but mine was my Drivers license.
They then take your photo and ask for your signature after which they'll tell you they will do a police check on you (at no cost to you, at least that was the case for me). They'll give you a delivery bag but you won't be active until they process the police check which will take a few working days.

They'll give you a like a quick-start instruction slip that tells you to download the UberEats app from the playstore and then you're pretty much all set when they send you the police check green light.
