Great quality watch especially at this price. Have the blue version myself.

    • I am weighing up between this and the Makao USA II! Need to decide before the price of the Ray II goes up!

The sapphire glass and solid end links bracelet on the USA may be worth the difference (depending on how much you can get the USA for). I prefer the Ray's dial to the Mako but that's personal preference. Whichever you pick you'll have a great watch.

        • True! The only place to get the USA II is from Orient in the US, it costs about US$262.5 with a discount code. Decisions decisions

        • My exact thinking. Ray II looks better. So ~$100 US for SEL and sapphire? Great price on this deal though.

        • @ilikeit: do you think the $100 is worth it for those? Srs question

        • @justcallmeboss: It depends really on where it fits in your collection and what the purpose of the watch is. Is it a tool watch to beat a round the house in, will you be doing rugged jobs or will it be hidden under a shirt cuff for desk diving?

Sapphire won't scratch if you knock it or brush it against a sharp object - like fossicking in a deep draw for example. With mineral crystal there's always a chance. If I got a scratch I would be pissed, so I almost always go for sapphire.

Solid end links (where the watch head joins the band) denotes a far better quality band. They are less rattly, heavier and feel better IMO.

Your decision should be based on the cost, durability, but also which watch you will look down and admire the most. If you're going to be keeping it for a long time, I think the extra money is OK.

I think the Ray II movement has different features so look at that too.

        • @justcallmeboss: keep an eye out for Black Friday deals where the discounts are usually higher.

      • The other watches worth considering are the seiko skx series and seiko 5 dive watches snzf range. I have the old blue ray and the bezel is terrible. Fwiw orient is owned by seiko

        • These are good options. I have the SKX which is rugged and proven. It can be dressed up or down and after market band upgrades can be bought too.

  • Bought one !

  • Rolex clone at Rolex quality for about 5% of the Rolex price. Easy peasy .. :-) .. !!

    ps I have two …. Mako I Pepsi/Ray II Black…
