I've seen plenty of posts for free android or ios games that come up, or deals where they are free or reduced, but I hardly ever see anything for windows come up. Why is that? Where can I find games for my kids to put on the microsoft surface?

Thanks I'll check them out - but I think you have to be logged in to play games on Steam? I'm really looking for options for downloading so the kids can play in the car or other places.
You do have to be logged in, but you do not have to be online. It will go to offline mode if no connection is available, and the games will still work.
Ok, good to know. I've found one game on special that might be fun, so thanks for that.

Not sure if it just has to be touch friendly but there are a lot of free windows games these days and lots of nice simple strategy just check some free ware and share ware sites
As already mentioned though sites like steam gog origin desura and etc will have all your current free game needs
As for finding touch games maybe run an android iOS emulator and download some free games?
I used to play angry birds and some other quick and easy free mobile games on my windows laptop using blue stacks a few years ago not sure what the current best emulators are these days but you can always give some a go
Maybe check the surface reddit page for more ideas
Sorry I couldn't help you much any further my laptop is now dead and I am stuck on android for now (not that I am complaining it does what I need)
