Problems porting between Optus and Vodafone

Anyone else having problems transferring their number between Optus and Vodafone at the moment?

I activated a new Vodafone SIM on Saturday, all seemed to go through ok and got email and text message confirmations that my number was being transferred. Today my mum Whatsapps me to tell me she can't call me and I realised that I never got a text saying the port had gone through. Called Vodafone and the guy said they're having problems with Optus and that they had incorrectly refused the port. He resent the request, 4 hours later still no port, when I called back he said they're still having issues and to wait another 24 hours.

I've been switching between prepaid SIMs for a while now and never had issues but this is a pain :(

I had this a while back - Telstra to Vodafone. Telstra changed my birth date - haven't ported since it was so annoying!

There have been issues With Optus since Friday and I believe they are still having the issues today.

  • I ported from WW to Optus yesterday; activation done within 15 minutes.

  • Same problem with me. I also activated the Vodafone sim on Saturday but received an sms saying "There's something stopping your port request from being processed…".

I called them up today and at first I was told that they needed an account number (even though I was on prepaid) so I called up Optus to get my account number. Called Vodafone back to provide my account number then was told that there were problems with Optus to Vodafone ports the last few days and they are looking into it.

Took my account number anyway and said would try re-initiating the port request, but ended up receiving the same rejection sms again.

I've recently started hopping between discounted prepaid sims and I've had problems nearly every time so far (only one port went smoothly).

  • I also telco hop and noticed in the last 3 weeks any porting between Optus and Vodafone (or Vodafone to Optus) results in several unknown issues causing painful delays and needs human intervention.

I say this because if the porting was between Telstra and Optus, or Telstra and Vodafone (in either direction) it is usually smooth with no problems.

This leads me to think the problem isn't with Optus or Vodafone, it is just between them. The lesson I learned was to avoid activating a sim on Saturday to avoid any porting issues that can't be completed/investigated on the same day which ruins the weekend.

  • Seems to have been fixed overnight, I only just got the message from Saturday saying 'There's something stopping your port request…'. All working now, hooray!

  • Still not working for me. Ended up activating a new sim with a new number, to use in the meantime.
