Structural Engineer is asking $500 for 45 minutes inspection

My house has started building cracks and I am hiring structural engineer. They are asking for $500 for 45minutes followed by written report.

Is this price normal?

Quite normal. The physical inspection may only take 45 minutes, but the cost is in the background searches and in drafting up the report.
$500 doesn't sound like a bad deal to me.

    • Are you saying they get buidling design documents from council and then compare faults againt these documents?

  • Most professionals of this type all charge in the region of $250 per hour. So if you include the office work and travel time…

  • yes thats normal, its a small scope of work, they're fees have to be higher for cash. Bigger the scope the lower average cost of work.

  • Ok thanks

  • yep can confirm through recent experience that's the going rate.
