Hey OzBargain community, after rekindling my japanese I'm after a VITA for a few import RPG's
so far I have had very little luck finding anywhere that still sells the consoles.
I'm not keen on buying refurbished hardware from EB after some horror stories.
Does anyone have any idea where I could get one apart from pawn shops and ebay?

ozbargain had one from Amazon.de years back, never had any issues with locally bought games
The cartridge games are region free and you can use any region PSN account on the vita but switching from one PSN account to another is a real pain in the ass so it's best to pick one region for digital purchases and then do everything else physically.
what about play asia?

Thanks, but I'm not keen on reconditioned hardware after some bad past experiences.
How many refurb/reconditioned hardware have you purchased for you to have this impression?
I may not be able to change your mind but almost all of my gadgets at home are refurb and all of hardwares in my company are refurb as well.
Luckily I havent had any problems with them yet.
I am hoping that your bad past experiences are just bad luck (like getting a DOA brand new console).

From EB, I bought my PS3 from them refurbed.
First didn't read disk and was sent back.
Next one had the same issues,
Next one had the same issue,
Next one had the same issue. Gave up after that and got a refund.

I suggest you take that leap of faith.
Amazon US might have a good black friday deal or Play Asia. OLED might have streaks/blotches when black so check even new screens very carefully.

Gumtree I guess? I don't even think its possible to get new anymore? Its a shame because the console itself was great.
I /think/ <not sure> that the vita doesn't have region restriction so if you're looking for new you may be able to get it internationally? I think theres still games coming out for it in Japan and other countries, but I can't even find vita games in Australia anymore (or at least not at my ebgames).
