Subwoofer and Amp installation by dealership or self find other shops?

Hi all,

is it better to get the dealership to install? In order not to void the warranty?

Or do you have any recommendation to help install if not dealership?

Thanks.

  • What car?

Is it a genuine speaker upgrade, or aftermarket?

    • Nissan Pulsar.

Is there a difference between genuine and aftermarket? Not sure about it :P…

Some vehicles come with speaker upgrade options.

Just take it to a stereo shop. Be warned though if you're putting bass into a Pulsar it will rattle like a bitch. Spend money on sound deadening, your passengers/anyone outside your car will thank you. And rattling car just makes you look like a douche… (fyi)

Oh, and please upgrade the speakers if you're putting a sub in. Don't be that guy.

        • You don't have to upgrade your speakers when installing a sub. Many people are ok with the standard speakers in their car, except for the bass distortion.

You can choose a tasteful subwoofer to take care of the lower frequency, while the speakers do the above 80hz frequencies.

Obviously if you had an open ended budget, I would suggest 2 way speakers, 4 channel and mono amp and 12 inch subwoofer.

          Cheers

          @BensonP:

Most (if not all) car speakers aren't sufficient, and (generally speaking here) most people that want a sub/amp combo, actually want to be able to crank it, not just to have a subtle vibration. And the person that cranks their stereo, just to crank the bass, when the stock cardboard speakers are distorting all over the place, just gets laughed at (sometimes directly to them, sometimes behind their back).

Upgraded splits up front and 6x9s up back, all amped will beat a sub/amp combo added to stock speakers any day of the week.

        • @Spackbace:

I agree 99% with you. Except for the 6x9s in the back. Yuck! I'm an SQ kinda guy, so I'm biased :)

        • @BensonP:

Lol yeah fair enough I was just resolving that bass requirement ;)

  • Do not just take it to any stereo shop. There are some terrible audio installers around. I have had multiple systems installed by professionals and have installed one myself. I have seen great installs and horrific installs.

I see you're in Melbourne. Where abouts? What upgrades are you looking at doing? Just amp and sub?

    • can you recommend a great installer in melbourne?

      • Where do you live, mate?

  • I have been quoted $1500 to get a pioneer 1000w sub and amp from dealership.

Not sure outside market price but I still considering due to the warranty being voided and not really want them to have an excuse ….for saying its voided due to this and that…….

It won't affect the warranty. They won't install it (trust me), they'll get an outside company to do it, and add on a profit margin for the hassle
