Hey guys, I picked up a ZTE Blitz locked to Optus for just $99 which is a great priced phone for the old man just in time for Christmas! Went to Target first and they were selling them for $149, looked on the Optus site and they had it for $129, so i tried Kmart (unsuccessful) and then BigW. Great price for a decent cheap phone. Not sure if this is a sale price or a new reduced price, but nobody else has it for $99.

Some Specs:
5" Touch Screen
4g
Android 6.0 (out of the box)
Launched Feb 2016
8mp rear, 5mp front
8gb internal, 32gb max external
1gb ram
2500mAh battery

It is an Optus Exclusive model so it's obviously locked to Optus..

It's a great Christmas present idea for any of the older folk who would really just make the odd phone call, watch youtube and Skype with family. Also a good first phone for kids who aren't brats and only want iPhones and SGS7's.

1GB of RAM? Really? Someone wants to buy it?

Well if a phone is used for the purpose of phone calls…aka what it was intended for……1gb is more than enough..but I'm sure you wouldn't understand that so it's all g mate.

    • I'm still using a Galaxy S2, it doesn't go anywhere near 1GB (though it is only on 4.1) but it's internal storage is a pain in the ass (for some reason barely anything can be moved to SD).

ye ok mate. trying to sound like a tech head but coming across more as a DH…well done.

  • Hate to say it but 1gb ram wont get you very far these days.

my iPhone 6 has 1gb ram and I'm fine. My dad whom will only be using this mainly for calls once every blue moon will be more than adequate.

iPhone manages ram differently to android. I had an LG G3 Beat with 1gb ram and I couldn't have music playing while scrolling Facebook as it couldn't run 2 tasks at once..

I hope this runs well for your dad, but for only a little more you can grab an amazing Xiaomi Redmi Note 3 from a Chinese website

Seems ok for a $99 store purchase phone to me. I mean I think it will depend on the build of android 6 that will determine if the memory will be a huge factor or not. Be okay for a parental, the main feature your paying for here is the fingerprint sensor. Seems like the battery life would be good.

Coles is selling this for $89.

    Good:
    - Australian stock
    - 5" 720P display
    - Cheap to unlock
    - Android 6.0

    Bad:
    - 1GB RAM
    - 8GB internal storage, only 3GB for user

  • this isn't a bad phone considering the specs and the fact you get a fingerprint scanner. Only real downer is that it is 8GB internal storage, so if you go up to the $149 Optus X Sleek then you get the 16GB plus a glass body.

    • The Sleek is actually a rebadged Alcatel Shine Lite

      • This I know yeah. One word of caution is that it doesn't play back 60fps videos properly.

I recall a user here by the name of bagman. He is very popular with ozb and does it cheaply

Some people suggested that: Live chat with Optus and say you are travelling overseas, they will unlock it for free.

    • I had a locked optus phone, after 6 months I gave the optus website unlocking a try and somehow it went through and unlocked my phone without paying.

Also a good first phone for kids who are brats and only want iPhones and SGS7's to teach em a lesson.

This is an indeed great phone for basic usage. My mother in law uses this from last 6 months. I bought it from auspost for same price. All she wanted is a selfie camera. This phone has great selfie camera with flash. I'll be honest, not many phones come with front flash light. I was totally surprised. She uses WhatsApp all the time. Does audio and video calls on WhatsApp every now and then. Uses Facebook heavily. The battery still lasts her a day. Also 5" 720p screen is great size. It's much brighter and crisper. Audio quality is awesome too. Android 6 is buttery smooth. She is not complaining at all. I'm so relieved. For $99 if I can shut her. That's Gold.

    • Hey thanks for the hands on review…dad won't use it half as much as your mother in law so this will be perfect!
