My LG G4 Froze, Turned off, Went into a Bootloop, and Now Does Not Turn on AT ALL. Has Anyone Ever Had Success in Solving This?

Hey guys, I have had my LG G4 for maybe 1.5yrs. This morning, I was using Chrome when my phone froze, and suddenly turned off. I turned it back on and it just kept cycling the LG logo. I took the battery out, put it back in, and it actually booted to the homescreen only to freeze again and die. It now will not even TURN ON.

Is my phone fried? Has it passed to the afterlife?

If so, I am considering buying the One Plus 3 HT using the Auspost American Adress.

    Common problem with that phone.
    I had the same problem.
Not sure of your warranty as its over a year for yours (mine was 8 months).
It can be fixed by LG but I think all data/apps/photos etc not backed up are lost.

If there's any absolute essentials you need a back up of you can try putting it in the freezer for 20. I was able to recover holiday photos when my phone bootlooped in America that way.

But yeah, ridiculous problem with no real solution. A shame because it's such a great phone.

    • Are you saying putting the phone in the freezer for 20 mins and then switching it on allows the phone to boot properly again, at least enough time to recover data?

Yeah a Google of 'LG G4 freezer fix' or something along those lines will give explanations by people far more knowledgeable than me about it.

Mine came back for about 30 seconds on one attempt then I left it for 24 hours and got about 2 minutes out of it. Just luck, really.

Great phone. Loved it. Till it died. Now it's just an expensive draw filler

The LG G4 has a 2 year warranty, confirmed by entering the serial number on the LG website. The local repair service won't cover it if you bought from QD though, which is where I got mine.

    • bought from QD lol

      • Not a fan of QD?

Nope. QD are on my banned list….as are LG phones actually

Have you thought about contacting the seller and arguing it should be repaired under consumer law on this phone, particularly as its under two years and is a known durability issue.
Go back to the seller, and make a cogent argument on the basis of the ACL, and if that doesn't succeed, report it to the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission as a complaint. Phones like iPhones are covered for two years under the ACL and even Apple acknowledge this, so it would be an easy argument to make that a high end LG phone should be the same irrespective of grey import status.

Don't put it in the freezer prior to doing this, as I imagine that would ruin the battery, and void any warranty (express or implied) you do have. You may be in for the long haul!

    • That's only if the seller is local, in this case it's not.

Bootloop is fatal to the phone. Mine happened after 13 months. Shipped it off to qd for repairs.

If you do put it in the freezer, (yes it can help sometimes, same with stuffed hard drives too), use a zip lock bag as you will get condensation when you take it out of the freezer and can potentially make things worse.

Yep, this happened to my LG G4 last week, 12 months after I bought it. :( It's a shame because it was a great phone otherwise.

I bought mine from Mobileciti and it is local stock.

I was waiting for bootloop to happen, as I'd read about the issue 3 months after I bought it… I was getting quite anxious this past month as it was due to happen and one of my friends kept whinging about his bootloop that happened recently too lol (usually happens around 11-13 months after purchase, judging from others' experience).

It is clearly a widespread problem with the LG G4, so there needs to be a product recall!

    • And G5 and almost evry other LG model.

If you want to be able to recover your data, you can refer to my comments here https://www.ozbargain.com.au/comment/4097331/redir

I also tried flashing the LG firmware that disables all but 1 single core but that didn't help me at all.

My LG was about 10 months old.

There is a factory reset you can do while the phone is boot looping…..I ended up doing that before sending it away.
Didn't matter, I got a completely different phone back, different IMEI and serial number.
