What to gift Canadian colleague?

Hey Ozb

Kinda stuck what i can grab as gift for a colleague who's Canadian.

Just met him today due to working different shifts, know nothing about his interest/likes etc. Facebook does not show much at all.

Budget is below $30

Need to be able to buy and receive fast ish (3-5 days preferred)

Please only comment if it's relating to topic.

Update:
Thanks everyone for all your suggestions related or not. I ended up getting him a tie and bow tie set. Should be interesting!

Forget the plush - Aus Geo has inflatable wombats and kangaroos. Must easier to fit into luggage on the way home

  • Half a slab, only just met him remember.

  • I hear Canadians love vegemite..

  • I found it that he loves mocha's and ties…

    Hmmm..maybe a tie….suggestions for cool ties?

    • If he likes coffee, I can make you a personalised mug for him if you like. PM me if interested.

  • Just met him? Coles gift card. He'll find a use.

  • hockey puck

  • Is he in Australia for a short time? Or is he an immigrant who just happens to be Canadian?

That would probably help determine if you go "full Aussie" on the gift, like stuffed koalas etc.

    I'd go the tie.

  • I'm not sure was so busy that we didn't chat much. But I'm thinking of the tie too. Any idea where I can get hold of awesome ties?

    Budget is below $30

a box of belgium chocolate or truffle from costso.

  • If you are wanting something Aussie then souvenir shops have some nice ties. I'm not sure what state you are in but most places have souvenir shops.
You could buy a good bottle of Aussie red wine perhaps.

Why would you get a guy you only met today a gift?

  • Ugg boots if you know his size?

  • Canadoh giftcard?

  • Sunscreen ,Aussie slang app./ or dictionary & a pair of Billabong shorts ( have a look in your local op. Shops - will probably be able to buy enough for both of you !! ) wrap all above ( apart from the app.) in lovely sunshiney paper & give the gift with a coffee + vegamite on well browned toast.
Voila ! ( well he will understand that if he is French Canadian )

  • Kmart photo section are doing personalised Vegemite jars.
David Jones christmas market section doing personalised Nutella jars for $14 (pair with Nutella Mug Cake recipe book $12 from Kmart - cookbooks in kitchenware section)
A few nice things in Australian Geographic shops under $30 in their Aussie section - as well as the plush toys & inflatables, they have aussie slang, stories & other books etc.
AusPost shops also sell aussie books, dvds etc.

  • Shout him a pub lunch, a bit of workplace bonding.
