GoPro or Camera?

Travelling to Bali over christmas & New T
Years and I have been thinking about purchasing a GoPro just because its compact and still takes good photos and videos and I can get a waterproof case or if I purchase the 5 already waterproof.

Otherwise I was just going to take my samsung WB800F but I just found it bulky to lug around for just your typical point and shoot.

Just wondering what people recommend and what I should expect to pay? Or if anyone has found any good deals?

I have been looking on Gumtree to potentially purchase something already with accessories but not finding a heap in Melbourne at the moment.

Thanks OzBargainers!

  • No advice from me, except that I purchased a Xiaomi Yi Camera for video and have a DSLR for photos (used to have a waterproof Panasonic compact that we got rid of for the Xiaomi Yi).

However, if you are serious about an Action Camera, I'd look at the new Xiaomi Yi 2 instead of the GoPro. Tje GoPros are ridiculously overpriced.

  • With a gopro or similar you're stuck at 24mm or something (quite a wide lens). You'd need to crop every single picture to get rid of the warping. Not only that, but you'd be stuck at 4mega pixels wouldn't you? They sell their product as if 4k is some terribly high resolution for a photo. It's 4 megapixels. There are phone cams from 10 years ago that will do better than that. And let's not get started on the super high f-stop.

    • +1

      It's 4 megapixels

      Errrr no it's not

  • It doesn't necessarily have to be a gopto but an compact camera point and shoot with video capabilities would be great really.

  • id want a camera for travel photos and video. My GoPro is great for action stuff and photos of up close subjects, but for not crash hot for wider 'scenic' shots. Newer ones are probably better though (mine is a white 3), but still not the best solution.
