Which Microwave I Should Buy

Hi Guys,
With $100 off with AMEX @ HN and 20%off at GG,

I am tempted to upgrade our microwave. Simple question, which should I buy? I am looking for at least 30 ltr or bigger.

PS: I am vegetarian and no need for meat defrost or so on..

  • I would also like to buy a microwave.

    Bump!

Although I will have lots of meat to defrost.

  • I upgraded my Panasonic microwave that lasted me 25 years (still works but it's in the garden shed)with a Panasonic one that lasted two years. I grabbed another Panasonic that lasted 3 years tops. I did a great amount of research and found Samsung Micowaves are dangerous and can explode. So I ended up getting this:

If you don't need defrosting then a basic model should be fine.

    • I'm looking at that too but the white version is much cheaper.

I just need a reason to buy another thing to reach $300.

Or from Good Guys with ebay 20% off

    • So I ended up getting this:

Hate to be the bearer of bad news but that microwave is a piece of crap. Ours blew up tonight and tripped the breaker after only four years.

In that time however it had hung multiple times requiring a power cycle, half the display has gone missing because they didn't protect the display from the steam and we've had to put up with the fan that keeps running at full speed and the annoying beeping that continues until you open the door.

These problems are not isolated however, check out product reviews and they have extra ones like burning and arcing on the front door.

Previous sharp lasted around the same time but had multiple repairs and frequent hanging and was a previous model.

Meanwhile older sharp microwaves in the family often made it to 20 years old.

      • Thanks for the warning. Unfortunately it's a bit too late as I already bought it.

Hopefully you won't have the arcing problems which removes the paint from the frame or the electrical burning smell like many have had. If you have any problems I would take them up with sharp each time so there is a record of them. I don't understand why it's so hard to make a reliable microwave especially when we used to have them!

I'm over sharp in a big way after this, I was thinking of Panasonic bit I'm not sure that they are better. Doesn't leave a lot of options.

  • I got a Sharp R330YS last year based on the choice reviews. It works well. Definitely more even heating than the very old panasonic that I had.

  • I have seen sharp carousel at friend's house and not very happy with it. Mainly due to fan turns on to cool it down as soon as you heat something and it's noisy.

Does it happens with all brands and models? Our current one doesn't have fan system, it is a good microwave but lost it's capability to even heating. it is whirlpool 30 ltr. paid $200 for it.

It's because sharp who used to be a leader have decided to use their name to sell poorly engineered microwaves at a premium price.

    • I think every inverter type microwave has this annoying cooling feature, but this type is also supposed to give more even cooking than the older method.

  • Lol, we use cheap kmart ones in a commercial kitchen, 10+ months of HARD use, more than you would in 6-7 years.

If buying a microwave for home go either cheap like kmart or go big lime a solardom or one with dual cooking ect.

  • You should buy one off Gumtree for $10 from someone moving / going o'seas etc….
