Going NZ - Advice ASAP

Hi all,

Last minute plan to NZ

10 Day Trip approx $2500 all inclusive food, flights accom and acitivities included.

The package departs Syd and goes to NZ, Auckland. Spend 3 nights there then doing a 7 day tour of Norht Islands from Auckland to Bay of Islands and to Wellington

The included activities are things like quad biking, zip lining, bungee jumping, parasailing, night kayaking etc etc.

Is this a good price ($2500 10 day trip incl flights, accom, food and activities)? Also, is this a good idea for 2 x 21 year old men?

People are telling me this isn't a good idea and South Islands is better?

I Need to have a decision by midnight Sydney time or the price goes back up ~$450

Thanks all.

  • Both North and South Island have plenty of things to offer visitors. It's a personal opinion which one's better. To be honest, I prefer the scenery in the South Island more, but I wouldn't recommend you going there right now anyway. A lot of the transport infrastructure is still being assessed for safety and reconstruction since the quake hit a week or so back. In fact some tourist areas such as Kaikoura were completely blocked off.

As for the price tag, $250 a day is not too bad considering everything is included. Can you do it cheaper? Yeah probably, but you'd have to organise all those activities and co-ordinate the travel and timings yourself. So you're paying a little extra for the convenience really. And if those activities don't suite 2 x 21 year olds, then I don't know who they're suited to!

If you do go, I hope you have a good time! :-)

Hi, I lived in Auckland for six years. Good thing about New Zealand is everything is close by. You could travel the length of the North island by car in two days or so. The price of tour is ok, considering food is bit more dear than here lol. However, I'm not sure you'd be seeing the best parts of New Zealand if your tour is: Auckland, Bay of Islands, Wellington. Rotorua and Taupo are interesting places to check out. I'm assuming your tour goes to these places when moving from Bay of Islands to Wellington? Also depends on what you are into. I reckon two days is good enough for Auckland, just a city and sort of hard to get around/not enough decent activities compared to other spots.

    • I agree regarding Rotorua and Taupo. I could only assume the tour would stop there on the way to Wellington. The OP should make sure those are on the list of stops.

Lots to see and do in wellington, bay of islands is nice. I love both islands and been there many times. I think that sounds pretty good assuming your seeing all of the major stops. Does it include Hobbiton? (Near Matamata)

    • I was going to make a joke about 'Hobbiton, is that where the hobbits in LoR lived!? huk huk', but decided to google it first. It IS where the Hobbit's lived!

Well, there you go! I learned something today!

      • It's expensive but worth it. I think it cost me around $170NZ with a family of 4 for basically 2 hours. Probably the highlight of my last holiday in NZ

  • At this time of year?
People in large parts of NZ still have their fires burning.
I'd consider February but not now
